Library not updating

Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Player Version#:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I’ve been having an issue with the last two versions of Plex wherein the library is not updated when files are removed. If I watch the final episode of a TV show and then move that file off of the server, Plex no longer removes the show and episode from the Library, despite the file not being accessible. I’ve tried manually scanning and refreshing metadata, but it doesn’t change anything.

I’ve also tried implementing PLEXIGNORE rules to exclude featurettes but it insists on including them in the library. When I remove those files from the library folder, they still persist in the library listing.

Any help is very much appreciated!

fyi, refreshing metadata will do nothing for a deleted file.
Manually scanning/updating your libraries can remove it…sometimes.
I’ve seen plex straight up remove it from the library and other times it flags the item with a trash bin icon overlay. If you get the overlay then you have to select empty trash.

If you wish plex did all this automatically then you can change it in the settings.
Settings → Library → Empty trash automatically after every scan
Also described in the above article. But read the warning carefully.

Again, be REAL careful with this setting. It can BITE you in the butt if you have media stored on shares/external drives that disconnect from your server often.

Something else to keep in mind is that plexignore doesn’t work, it’s been broken for a while now:
