Library Path Naming Convention for WD MYCloud EX2 Ultra NAS shares folder to save Movies for NVIDIA Shield Server

Please help if you can.
I have 3 Plex media servers setup. with my Plex Pass account:

  1. For my music (Working Perfectly) - All my FLAC music files are stored on my WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS 10 TB Drives. The server is the WD NAS running the WD .bin file. I use my Plex Amp app or music. No issues. It can play directly no transcoding needed for this NAS, but it cant do Transcode for /TV/video so hence my question/issue #3 below…

  2. My Windows Laptop. I can use my PC to use the Guide to record TV shows OTA from my Plex Pass Live TV and DVR. The files would be stored locallyt to my PC HDD.

#3 - My issue:
I also have a Plex Server running on my NVIDIA Shield Pro 2019 because it CAN transcode movies and TV,… BUT I need to be able to know the exact naming convention used for the Libray path so that I can point the Plex server on the NVIDA shield and Plex Library config area to look at my WD NAS shares folder instead of on the internal NVIDIA stroarge which is very limited for space. This way I can record OTA TV shows directly to the NAS drives. and also play my movies stored there

On my network the path to my NAS is 192.168.254.xx for example
In my Windows Explorer the MAPPPED file location path it would be:
\MYCLOUDEX2ULTRA\Plex\Movies
or \TV Shows for TV

***My question is WHAT exact specific naming convention do I use to put into the “Edit Library” area of the settings in the Plex settings area (when logged into the NVIDIA shield server section) to point the nvidia to the NAS shared drive
Where you can “Add Folders” etc.
The shares name is : Plex and then the \Music and \Movies folder is under that

Do I use forward slashes like // or backslashes like \ to start the path name or what?? and what do I put after that. I dont have a drive letter for my NAS and I cant directly browse to it using the Plex Library edit / add folders area either

and like I said Im not trying to save/view directly from/to the Internal NVIDIA HDD folder, I want to point it to my mapped network drive NAS shares folder but I dont know what to put in there as if I try to browse for the folder it only looks locally not on the network
but YES all my connections are working and I can see all directlories if I force look at them in windows file explorer.

Please help as Ive read thru all the Blogs and FAQ files but it doesnt handle this special scenario where you want to point the server to a location OUTSIDE of the internal HDD of the current server (Ie internal HDD for a WIndows PC server; internal HDD or USB for NVIDIA server, etc) which wont help me as the space runs out too quickly,

Yes My NVIDIA Shield is setup to use external storage (which I have a 128 GB micro UBS thumb drive plugged into it in the back, ) but I want to save my movies to the NAS (10 TBs) shares folder instead so I can play them on the Shield since It can transcode the video data unlike my NAS which cant do video but does music just fine.

Also BTW what should I put in the path for my cache directory area of the Plex settings, for this NVIDA shield? The NAS HDD path or the NVIDIA internal HDD location path? for:
" Transcoder temporary directory
Directory to use when transcoding for temporary files."

Thanks anyone

You cannot put the Plex data folder onto a network file share. You will have to use a USB drive.

To use your NAS as a media storage for your shield, you need to “mount” the SMB file share(s).
This is covered in the documentation of the shield.
You also might want to take a look at this: How to Setup a Plex Server on the Nvidia Shield TV with External Storage - YouTube

as well as Low Cost Plex Transcoding Server Setup: NAS + Nvidia Shield! - YouTube

As an update, you can see I WAS able to put in the path to the movie/bluray file that is physically located on my NAS drive for my PC Laptop server (See attached 2 pix) but I need to know the exact nomenclature on how to do this for the NVIDIA Shield to link the movie folders path for the Shield to the NAS on the network.
If it can be done on the PC server then the Shield should be ok too just need toknow how to name the path properly
see pix below
the SHIELD is setup in my Living room home theather hence why iI want to do this in the first place as its a hassle to hook up my Laptop (not dedicated to Plex serving) to the TV with HDMI everytime I want to watch a movie or TV show

Thanks

Thanks but yes I already did setup the Shield for External Storage in the shield settings. (I have a 128 GB usb thumb drive in one of the back ports), which is where its currently recording the TV shows that I have successfully done in the past, but if i want to PLAY (not necessarily record) the movies/concert blurays on my NAS to play using the Shield and the Plex server then thats what i need to know how to do.
Does that mean I need to do SSH stuf on the NAS f??!!
So as long as I can PLAY/Transcode (if necessary) from the NAS to the Shied that would be ok and then just use the thumb drive in the shield to occasionally do OTA TV recordings for shows that I cant get local stationstThru my Sling TV service (very limited for Local HD OTA channels) then thats OK I Guess if I cant link the Shield to the NAS using Plex. :frowning:

Mounting the network share on the Shield is shown in the second video above.

Ok I was following this guys video (see below) for the SMB stuff. got thru it all except the last part which Ill try later tomorrow as its late. I will need to try and login to my Laptop or a share from the shield to see if all those many many steps worked: ANd Yes I watched Lon.TV’s great video a while back when I was setting it up initially for my Music (back then didnt have any desire for movies/tv/video) so yeah thats a good link as well.
thanks
stay tuned…

Just a quick update…
I was up most of the night last night working on this and I guess I got it to work!!!
My NVIDIA Shield now can play Movie files that are now located on my WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra NAS 10 TB drives. I am also able to see the path to the NAS drive in the edit Library area, whereas I was not able to do this before

See image below.

So now I can watch movies that I backup/rip to my NAS and play my FLAC music files from my NAS using Plex Amp and record OTA TV DVR recorded shows (saved to the NVIDIA USBs thumb drive added in the back) with my Plex Pass !!
Hoooray

**Just wanted to know what I should use for the Transcoder temporary directory drive?? , the internal NVIDIA shield location or the NAS drive location??

thanks again for all your help

Thanks very much. Do you have an idea about the Temp Cache folder for best results? as in my last post question at the end?
Cheers

Sorry I don’t know that.
