Move plex media server from NAS to Nvidia Shield

Hi guys,

Quick one for you, I am looking to migrate my plex media server (with all settings and content) to my nvidia shield but need all large files such as movies, tv shows etc to remain on my NAS. The Nvidia shield would then retrieve the files form the NAS directly.

How could this be done if it can?
Thanks a milion

TLDR: Not a solution, but I tried and failed at doing the very same thing last winter

I messed with using my Synology 1815+ NAS to store media for a Plex server on my Nvidia Shield a few months ago but I couldn’t make it work. If I recall correctly, the Shield wasn’t reading the shared folder for some reason. I haven’t tried again since Nvidia pushed out version 7.0 of the Shield OS this week, so I am curious if that might have solved the problem.

If you succeed, do let us know!

I have it setup that my nas has all the media files and my shield runs the server and hosts all meta data. Don’t know how to migrate it from nas to shield, I simply setup the shield as a new server and had it pull down metadata afresh. Make sure your nas has a share setup to your media files and on the shield go into settings>storage and mount the nas share to your media files. Now you can go and start the plex media server on the shield and via the plex web interface (as is done with plex on the nas) setup your various media types. The nas should appear as a choice when looking for folders.
Check this out for specifics on doing this.
