Library recommendations

I am in the process of setting up my system

  1. Plex Media Server on Windows 10
  2. Content:
    a. Music
    b. Photos / personal photos
    c. Audio Books
    d. Video Books
    e. AV material like Training/Seminars (sometimes contain video and audio components)
  3. Clients:
_a. Plex Web App on Windows 10 PC/Chrome
    b. Plex Web App on Android TV/Chrome
    c. Plex App on Android Smartphone and TV
    d. Sonos
    e. I also Google Home, SmartThings. I dont believe it works with GHome yet. _

Some questions about how to handle libraries. Particularly the Training Seminars that have videos and audio.
I have tried:
Library = Other Video
Problems are

  • Audio files doesn’t show up
  • Everything video gets sorted from different training classes. You can organize by using folder view (can this not be set to stick?).

Appreciate any feedback
Plex looks awesome so far

I would separate item b. Photos / personal photos.
Just in case you want to share just the photos.
I don’t believe audio files will play in the “Other Video” library. You may be able to spoof PLEX by naming the audio file with a video extension(NOT TESTED THOUGH).

I found a few ways:

  1. (As mentioned) If I view as folder, this is not a problem
  2. There are some ways of doing it by making it a series (some post with instructions exist) but requires changing the filename, etc
  3. Defining it as a music library will show the videos a music videos. However not all videos show, not sure why. Also things get messed up
  4. There is also the recommendation from NewPlaza. Somebody mentioned that changing extension from mp3 to mp4 works.

For now, I will live the folder view since I am bit busy. But will explore #2-#4 later on. Thanks
