Library section nesting Needs to be removed

The recent update that nested library sections of the same category (Movies, TV, Audio) needs to be removed. It’s caused way too much confusion amongst friends and family that use the iOS Plex player. You gave us the option to create multiple library sections and users curated their libraries with that in mind, now you’ve lumped them all back together again.

I’m dreading this coming to tvOS.

Stop trying to fix problems that never existed in the first place.

I don’t understand. Each library is still separate from each other.

What do you mean they are lumped together?

No, they are not separate when it comes to navigation, they are nested within their given category. Previously I could select my TV - Miniseries library on it’s own, now I have to pick Shows and then use the drop down menu to navigate to the proper library section.

The same thing has happened on other platforms. Users created these operate library sections for a reason and we want them visible to everyone who uses our library, even our tech-phobic friends and family. I’ve had to add an instruction section because of this to my weekly Tautulli newsletter I send out because people couldn’t find the separate sections anymore.

Correct. TV Show libraries are not grouped under “Shows”. Previously you just had a jumbled list of libraries with TV Shows mixed in with Movie, Music, and Photo libraries. We thought separating them into their categories would make it easier to find. Yes, it takes an extra step, but it’s more organized this way don’t you think?

Previously I had a nice sorted list of library sections, not sure where you’re getting “jumbled” (if you’re referring to their order, the long requested “sort order” addition would have been sufficient). Easily accessible and all were visible from the get go, nothing was hidden. It might be more neat, but that’s not the same as things being easy to find or more organized.

It’s a hassle for me, but the larger issue is that many people who we (those of us who maintain Plex libraries) share our libraries with aren’t great users of technology. When you change basic navigation like this and hide things you make it more difficult for those people to access content. The idea of being able to customize the nav bar was a nice one, but that could’ve been accomplished without nesting. And for those of us that only use Plex for local video there’s that third nav bar space that is essentially wasted.

I am not the only one who thinks this, 199 people have upvoted this on the reddit sub. https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/8x1t9f/latest_ios_plex_app_much_harder_to_use_not/

By jumbled, I meant, all libraries were included in the list so you could see a photo library next to a movie library. Sure, some users may not mind this, but does grouping them into categories really make it harder to find? Not arguing, just curious. It may depend on your use-case which method you prefer. I jump between categories and I find this makes it easier. i.e. I listen to music in the car so I pick the music category and my last used music library is already selected. When I want to watch a TV show, I select Shows and again, the last used TV Show library is selected. So I can switch back and forth between these libraries with 1 click.

This is the new UI Plex would like to use. If you have ideas within this context, we are open to listening.

I don’t understand. Which space?

I and others have made suggestions, revert to the way Plex has worked in the past. Or take this current navigation idea and instead of focusing on categories make the focus library sections. With all due respect, my take on this isn’t unique. There are multiple threads on this on reddit and many people are annoyed with this. Digging your heels in on this change doesn’t seem like a great strategy. You’ve made navigation harder for users and users are upset, perhaps taking this back to the Plex team and coming up with better ideas would be more useful and less user hostile.

I should’ve said fourth not third. There five nav bar buttons. The first is Home and the last is More. I can customize the other three positions. As I only use Plex for local video, I have Movies and Shows in two of those slots. But since I have no use for audio, photos, news, plugins, or live TV that last sport is wasted. If I could populate them with library sections instead of categories I could at least utilize that spot.
