Lightning to HDMI

Hi. I can see a closed post about this from three years ago, but no good answer and nothing since. My Plex works perfectly on iOS. My Netflix and Apple TV work perfectly from iPhone to TV via lightning to HDMI cable. But Plex won’t play on TV via lightning to HDMI. I get sound, and the “cover image” of the program, but no video as such. Is there a workaround?

The official Lightning Digital AV Adapter - Lightning to HDMI - Apple has for sale is said to allow you to mirror up to 1080p over HDMI.

I don’t have one, but maybe when connected it automatically mirrors or maybe you have to tell the iOS to mirror. Try a new High Speed HDMI cable to put into the adapter.

If you’re using some lightning to hdmi cable, I doubt Apple will let that continue to work if it ever did. They tend to close features and unsuspecting customers figure they just need to buy the new model.

I have the official apple lightning to HDMI adapter. That is not the problem. It works perfectly on Netflix, Amazon Prime etc. It is only Plex that doesn’t work through the cable.

thanks for clearing that up. I couldn’t tell from your OP.
May we ask that you gather debug mode versions of your server logs and the ios logs please where you restart PMS then demonstrate the issue for 30sec, then use your laptop and
Settings → Troubleshooting → Download logs

I’ll look for my adapter.

Let’s also start with the basics before buying things.
HDMI is a somewhat smart connection.
Open the iOS device and in the list of running Apps, quit out of Plex.
Put the device to sleep.
Plug the Adapter + cable into the iOS and attach it to the TV.
Turn on the TV.
Open the iOS device.
Start Plex.
Playback.

does it work?

I’ll try. But I’m not convinced it has anything to do with PMS, only with Plex app on iPhone.

The logs are to see the decisions being made by Plex after inspecting your hardware.
Please see my additional post above.

Bizarrely this works! As long as I leave Plex open and don’t open any other apps, then it just mirrors them instead. So for anyone else, quit Plex, reconnect lightning to HDMI and reopen Plex.

Thanks for your help.
