Having recently got in 4K hdr movie back ups I’ve hit a big of a problem when it comes to playing them on other devices.
Now my main client can direct play them which is excellent but if I try to play them on my iPad or my family try to watch them remotely it transcodes them which is understandable. Now the issue is as the are in HDR we hit the colour tone mapping problem and everything ends up looking washed out which of course isn’t acceptable. I do have the 1080p sdr version of the files as well so I thought if I added those to the library Plex would try to transcode off those first being they’re closer to the format I want but no it does it from the 4K version.
Is there a way that if Plex needs to transcode I can set it so it won’t touch 4K files for transcoding?
