When accessing the Plex App from my Fire TV, I always get the message “Limited Connection - You are not connected directly to James-HTPC so streaming quality may be limited. You may be able to connect directly to this server by changing your home network settings. Learn more”.
I guess I don’t understand this. My plex server, which is my HTPC, is on the same network that my Amazon Fire Tv is on. I tried accessing Plex through another computer on the same network, and I get the same message. If I’m on the same network as the plex server, why can’t I direct connect? I’ve researched everywhere and can’t seem to find an answer. I must be missing something. Help!!
Thanks Otto! I think its solved? Not 100% sure though. I launched the web app and the Amazon Fire TV app, now I’m not getting that “Limited Connection” message. You think I’m ok now? The server still says “Indirect”, not sure if that really matters though.
W/ my HTPC (where Plex is Running) - on the Plex Home page…upper left shows my server name
W/ my laptop (on same network) - on the Plex Home page …upper left shows server name and then “Indirect” underneath.
I think it’s ok now. I just want to make sure its now downscaling anything when I’m playing my movies right here from home…since it had that “Limited Connection” message before, I guess its possible it was downscaling to 720 instead of 1080.
I am having a similar issue. I bought a Samsung home connect wifi mesh system and had to bridge the wifi to get plex to stream HD. I have a new modem that won’t let me bridge my mesh system anymore and I can log into plex on my Roku but only stream SD.
