On my Ubuntu 18.04 system, I have 5.1 surround sound setup on the system itself. I can run tests such as the following link in Chrome and see the individual channels activate as well as hearing them activate around the room correctly:
https://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/multichannel.html
While this works in Chrome for this website, for Plex however I am only hearing stereo. I can download a recorded show from Plex and play it in VLC for example and it will use 5.1 surround sound properly, so the recording itself has its original 5.1 surround sound preserved. It is just this is rather clunky. It would be really helpful to have this working directly in the browser. I see other posts where people suggest using the Windows 10 app, but I am using Linux, so I am thinking that is probably not for me.
So what do I do for Linux to get proper 5.1 surround sound support without doing something really clucky like downloading each video file and playing it on a generic player?
