Linux server can't see my media (it was working last night)

My Plex Linux (kubuntu) server was running fine last night. Powered down. Today, I wanted to continue watching movies, and can’t. On Dolphin, all library files are available, and play well.

I connect to http://localhost:32400/web/index.html on my Brave browser, and all libraries have an exclamation mark, and a text saying:

" plex1 is currently unavailable

Verify you have a network connection and that the server is online, or see our troubleshooting tips for further assistance."

I’m trying to access my server from a Roku.

I tested creating a new small library, and it worked, I can access it. The permissions seem the same, which make sense, I haven’t changed anything from yesterday.

I already logged out of server and Roku, and re-logged in on both. Still can’t see them.

I don’t use a VPN or proxy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Really need to see the PMS DEBUG log files ZIP so I can see what PMS is.

  1. Verify DEBUG logging is on, VERBOSE logging is off, SAVE if changed
  2. Restart PMS
  3. wait 3 minutes for it to startup completely
  4. Attempt to play something which generates the error
  5. Download the Logs (Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs)
  6. Attach the ZIP file.

I am seeing the scanner constantly rematching media.

It’s behaving as if it is trying to write to the database and metadata but unable to save everything and then starting over.

I am not seeing Permission errors on the media itself.

This looks to be more of an issue within Plex’s metadata area.

I would like you to do the following:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. sudo chown -R plex:plex /var/lib/plexmediaserver (assuming you are using defaults)
  3. Start Plex
  4. Force a refresh of all metadata for one library section.
  5. Let it complete.
  6. Attempt a playback that you know fails and will force transcoding. I want to see worse case.
  7. After that fails,
  8. Download the logs again and attach the ZIP

Only the test library that I added today have all options available when clicking on the …
All other libraries only have Unpin and Reorder available, everything else is grayed out, so I can’t refresh metadata on them.

I don’t understand what to do about this step. I can’t see anything inside the libraries. One thing I did do, was playing an HD movie with forced burn in of subtitles, from the test library.

I get the feeling you have a filter enabled which is hiding all your content.

Your log shows the transcoding just fine.

As I said, the funny thing is that it all libraries were working perfectly the night before.

Check that your library files are mounted correctly in the operating system and then check the paths for each configured library match that of the operation system.

The Manage Library option is grayed out, in all of them, so how can I compare paths? I can’t even delete the libraries to then try to re-add them.

But I see and open all files. Sorry, yeah, it’s weird.

Sounds like your Plex server is unreachable then. Make sure PMS is running. If it is indeed running try rebooting it.

This is too weird, but don’t worry, I’ll start over. Plex does most of the work anyways.

If you click settings on top right then scroll down on the left to Libraries you can check that everything still matches up correctly instead of right clicking and trying to go to manage library.

You said you made a new library and it was seen just fine. Makes me think something is not mapped right.

I figured it out.

This had happened to me before, long ago. I had a server called Plex1. What I did then, was to just create a new server, here1k, but with the same libraries and library names that Plex1 had.

What happened today (yesterday), was that the libraries in the newer server (here1k) dissapeared and the old server came (plex1) was showing all libraries offline, and confused me, since I didn’t notice the server name.

There’s a new problem now, but will open a new post for that. Thank you for your time.
