Live TV and DVR Captions not working on Roku

Captions have stopped working on any live broadcast or TV recorded from ota broadcast. They work fine on other platforms. I’ve rebooted the Roku and tried removing/reloading the app. Looks like a recent app update broke it.

This is still an issue. Works fine on the Windows app but won’t display any captions on live broadcasts or recorded broadcasts on Roku.

Given the popularity of Roku devices I find it difficult to believe I’m the only one with this problem. Can anyone either confirm or deny they’re seeing the same issue? Only a problem with watching live TV (broadcast TV) or shows recorded from live TV.

I’ve tried soft and hard reboots of the Roku and even tried removing and readding the plex channel, still have the same problem. Been going on for a while now. Used to work fine.

In the Roku Accessibility settings do you have subtitles set to always on? I couldn’t see any until I turned on that feature in the main Roku settings.

I definitely have it set to always on. Again, this is only a problem with OTA channels and recordings, other media works fine.

New Roku player version 7.0.3.0 dropped yesterday, release notes say that includes a fix where captions may not work on “some media”. It didn’t fix the problem I’m having. This is happening on multiple Roku devices and it only affects OTA broadcast TV and recordings. Other media works fine. Captions used to work on this but haven’t for a few weeks. Since I have a lifetime Plex pass and they won’t get any more money from me I guess I’ll just get ignored. I wonder if I would get more attention if I paid monthly.

Still having this issue on multiple Roku devices. Captions work fine on most media, but Live OTA broadcasts do not show captions and programs recorded from live OTA broadcasts don’t have captions. Since I am seeing this on multiple devices I can’t believe I’m the only person seeing this issue. I don’t know if it’s a problem with the Roku app or with the server, but captions work as expected on the Windows and web players.

This is getting really frustrating. I paid good money for a lifetime Plex pass specifically to use the Live TV & DVR function, and it seems like it’s perpetually broken one way or another and the devs don’t seem to care. I usually expect that a software product I pay to use have an actual support department that can be contacted, at least via email.

Checked yesterday and the captions work fine on the Plex app on my LG TV, still not working on multiple Roku devices since the app update in January. Why doesn’t someone at Plex give a damn that this is broken? I can’t be the only one with this problem.

Going to keep bumping this until it’s fixed. It’s only a problem with Live TV & DVR, in other words broadcast channels and recordings from the those channels. The feature that is sold as a perk of having a Plex pass. One of the few features we get to pay extra for that seems perpetually ignored or broken. I cannot display captions on live OTA broadcast TV or on TV shows recorded from broadcast on multiple Roku devices, seems to work fine on all other platforms. It’s been this way since the Roku app update in January. If I had this problem on one Roku and not another I could see it being my device, but the problem exists on multiple Roku devices. I cannot believe that I’m the only Plex user using Live TV and Roku together, please, if yours is working reply to this and let me know.

Got the 7.1.1 update, still no captions on OTA TV or anything recorded from OTA TV, also still no indication if any other user out there either does or does not have the same problem, and no acknowledgement from anyone who works for Plex that they’ve seen this post.

Suddenly last night it started working again. I’m not aware of any update to the plex app or to the Roku OS so I’m not sure what caused it to work, but it did and I’m happy about that.

And then they stopped working again the next day. I have no idea what’s going on with this and why.

Still not working. I wish someone, anyone, had any idea why this is happening.

Can you provide the roku logs after playing a bit of the channel where the captions do not appear.

I don’t appear to have a logging option on my Roku Ultra. It’s a model 4800X the logging option doesn’t appear in settings or advanced system settings. Under advanced system settings I have only Factory reset, Network connection reset, Device connect, Control by mobile apps, and Advanced display settings.

That sounds like you are in the settings of the device. Should be in the settings of the app.

Well, I was able to turn on logging in the app, but my Roku won’t allow me to connect via web browser and get the logs.
