Subtitles have stopped working on LiveTV

They used to work. Recently, in the past week or two, I noticed we no longer see closed captions on the Roku for LiveTV/DVR only. Subtitles are fine for all other non-LiveTV video I have stored on my server. I tried going back a few versions of the server software all the way back to 1…29.0.6244 to no effect. I don’t know how to go back on the Roku. I can select the subtitles stream 'Unknown (Closed Captions). I have the Roku set with closed captions ‘always on’, and indeed I see them with non-LiveTV files. When I play LiveTV in a web browser, I do get the closed captions, but never on the Roku.

I really need some help. With a deaf person in my house, closed captions are an essential feature.

I tried several options like always burn subtitles and disable direct play. What finally worked was to enable ‘Allow MPEG2’!
