"Live TV" and "Movies & TV" Online Media Sources sometimes exist, sometimes missing

Hi guys,

I’ve searched for hours now and tried to understand it or find the issue… but I couldn’t! So please somebody enlighten me.

I have a Livetime Plex Pass, running the latest version of the Server (on Windows) and using different devices to watch (all Plex app are the latest version). I’ve also discovered Live TV and Movies & TV (by Plex) lately. So I’ve made myself a watch list.

Now as it turns out I cannot watch my watch list on some of my devices. I’ve narrowed it down to the fact that on some devices my “Online Media Sources” are:

  • Movies & TV
  • Live TV
  • Web Shows
  • News
  • Podcasts
  • Music

and on some devices the first two are missing?!?! First I’ve thought its an authorization issue. But in my account settings in “Online Media Sources” all 6 entries are Enabled.

Devices where all 6 are present are:

  • Android Phones (i.e. OnePlus 7Pro)
  • Android Tablet (i.e. Nexus 10)
  • iPad Mini
  • Zidoo Z9X (Android TV Player)

On these devices the first two are missing:

  • Windows App (Plex Media Player)
  • Nvidia Shield TV Pro

According to Free Live TV Streaming on Plex Overview | Plex Support Windows Desktop and Android TV is supported.
And what puzzles me the most is: Why does it not work in the Shield but on the Zidoo as both are Android TV (v9) devices?!?

I’ve just replaced my Zidoo with the Shield to fix an issue the Zidoo has with Netflix and now the Shield has an issue with Plex :frowning:

So my priority is to the all 6 Online Media Sources working on the Shield. The Plex version on the Shield is 7.23.0.13018 (f9b0a0fb)

Plex Media Player won’t get any new features from when it was “frozen”.
“Movies & TV Shows” is one of these features which were only introduced afterwards.

Maybe the sources just haven’t been added to the side bar on the Shield?
All the Plex-provided online media sources should be at the bottom of the list when you switch the sidebar into the MORE... mode.

@Windows: So is there a Plex Player program/app for Win which supports Live TV?

@Shield: I found the MORE… during my research earlier. But even there are just the 4 instead of 6 items.

Both the web app https://app.plex.tv
and “Plex (Player) for Windows” support both Live TV and all the online media sources https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-app

Update @ Shield:
I’ve installed an update of the Plex app even that a few hours ago the Play Store told me everything is uptodate.
Now I’m at v8.11.0.22186 and I see Live TV and Movies & Shows

But…

Movies & Shows displays no content! It says “No items to display. This directory appears to be empty”

@OttoKerner: Thanks! I didn’t know there was a difference between the two Windows apps. With “Plex for Windows” it works now.
