Why does the Live TV feature buffer/choke when viewing for remote users?
In my situation, I have an indoor antenna with HDHomerun Flex 4K tuner. The signals come through clear and are at high strength. There is no problem when watching at home on my HD Homerun app. Furthermore, when I watch these OTA signals through Plex at home, the feed is fine.
however, when watching remotely such as on my my phone or at my friend’s house, the feed buffers or just freezes.
I’ve tried adjusting the feed settings within the server as well as on the device that is remote (switching to a lower resolution), but just get the same results.
I have also setup a MoCa connection in my home so that feed has a hard-line connection to the router. Not sure if this matters, but I’m using a Synology NAS as well.
I do not know if there is anything NAS specific since I do not run that, but I would take a look at your bitrate of the stream you are wanting to view. Your dashboard in the web app (or Plex Dash on your phone if you have that downloaded) will tell you what the bitrate is. Make sure that the bitrate is under your upload speed cap from your ISP.
Are you doing live transcoding of your video? That might create a bottle neck if your server isn’t keeping up with transcoding.
For me those are the two biggest issues I had when viewing remotely especially since viewing over you LAN is not having issues.
No you will see ERROR and then some explanation of what the error is. Just do a CTRL+F and type ERROR to skip to where those are in the file.
The DEBUG lines are just telling you what is happening. Not anything that is going wrong per se. That line is probably deleting the metadata for that specific show that isn’t needed anymore.
Thinking more about it it might not result in an error per se, but I always search for them because those are the problems your having. Yes, I would search around the time things start buffering.
You can always upload your log zip file here for others to look at because there are a lot of people who have knowledge of issues or things that could lead to finding the issue.
