I have had this issue for several months and several versions now, and now has an additional wrinkle.
I had my server set to cap remote streams to the 2MB 720p setting, as my upstream is limited, and I am watching the sever from the US to the UK so it can be tricky to sustain a good stream. Everything works great on library media, but live TV does not seem to respect that setting. video is clearly much higher bitrate 720p when it starts and unless conditions are perfect, has a hard time keeping a stream going (I have watched it using wireshark, and plex’s own dashboard peak up to 5-6 Mbps.) I have now for months now, had to manually go into the settings and switch it down to 480 1.5 and it generally streams ok for the rest of the session.
The new wrinkle that cropped up the last few versions, is when you change channels, the new stream is back at 720p, but going into the settings, the “480p 1.5” option is already selected, but the quality is clearly HD and stutters. So I need to change the quality to another setting, then manually switch it back each time to ensure a stable stream. Its become annoying so much I haven’t been using the Live TV function.
