Running Plex Server and Player on the same PC. During live view with the Player app it’s dropping frames. About every second on average but could be less or more than a second between drops so not consistent… It’s pretty obvious. Audio does not seem to be affected, just the video stream. This is the same machine, unaltered, that was running WMC just fine as a combo server/player- I didn’t have any live view play issues. While in live view I monitored PC resource usage and nothing is getting remotely hit: 12 CPU cores all lightly used, 32GB memory and only 6GB in use. Disk Queue staying below 0.7 on C: where OS/apps are installed and below 0.01 on D: where the Plex libraries are. Network bandwidth not even close to being heavy, I’m just not seeing anything from the hardware side causing any slowdowns. I have turned hardware decoding both on and off with no effect.
Watching live view within the web browser seems to be pretty smooth. I’ve also watched some HD Web Shows at max quality and they are playing nice and smooth. Playback of recordings looks pretty smooth. I’ll say the problem is isolated to live tv using the windows Player app at this point.
To add to the misery last night I tried to watch a live broadcast that had started recording about an hour prior. That was an unpleasant experience with how badly it was stalling and chopping up. It wasn’t watchable at all. My experience with Plex thus far has been nothing but frustration. I’m glad I only bought a 1 month pass to test this out with, I’m close to just giving this up and going back to WMC. I had no performance problems at all with WMC on this PC. I see no reason Plex can’t also run on it but I have nothing left to investigate to make Plex actually work.
Thanks for the advice, Jason. I ended up going back to WMC for now. I created a process/script that fixes WMC whenever Windows 10 has a feature update that screws it up, which isn’t very often. I just like the reliability and simplicity of the WMC UI including the large on-screen controls. My next Plex ask was going to be about increasing the font size and controls.
I was just looking for this file. This is the most stable Android TV client version I think they’ve ever made. Has nice size font and it just works. If you decide to give Plex a shot again this should help you. Bear in mind this is for an Android TV client like the Nvidia Shield or Mi box.
Good to know. Just replace my entire windows pc media center pc that is attached to hd projector onto a 14’ screen with an android tv I think I’m done with the Plex expirement for now. Spent way too much time already on the product. I’m burned out with it.
