Ever since the latest Plex update, my Live TV channels keep dying after about 2-3 minutes. I just get the errors above. Worked fine for years before this. I run an antenna to an HDHomeRun that Plex speaks to and uses ffmpeg to transcode the stream.

If I use the HDHomeRun app natively on Windows, all works fine, no issues.

Anything sticking out here in the logs?

I’ve seen other people reporting the same issue since the latest PMS update while using the web client. You might want to try to downgrade one version to see if that will temporarily clear up the issue.

Unfortunately they fixed the issue for Android and in turn somehow broke the web client. I imagine it’s extremely hard to keep multiple clients on multiple platforms working together. Many many compatability issues and workarounds come up with such a large ecosystem.

Hmm. Haven’t tried the Android client. Funny you mentioned the Web Client - that was where I was experiencing it. I’ll try my Roku / Android clients and see if the issue is present there.

It’s just weird - the stream just ā€˜ends’ on the web client. And the logs, to me, don’t appear to show any immediate issue on the server itself. Just normal chatter.

Edit - actually, I was in Orlando just two days ago and was watching my local Live TV from a hotel room from my Roku - no issues. My server is based out of Houston. So maybe this is a client issue…?

Which web app are you loading?
If it is the ā€œlocalā€ one from your server, try the ā€œhostedā€ one instead: https://app.plex.tv
This issue is supposed to be fixed after v4.67.1 Plex Web - #369 by bengeorge

I’m launching the Edge browser (Chromium) on Windows 11, stable ring (so no insider ring) from my laptop. Not from the server directly. So I’m a genuine client.

I connect to https://plex.tv
I log in
I go to Live TV
I hit ā€œPlayā€ on a channel
2-3 minutes later, it just stops.

So, whatever app version is running via the Edge browser by default. I don’t run any extensions or any other witchcraft. I haven’t tried open source browsers like Firefox. Happy to do so though.

Happening from the local server that is used when you double click the server’s tray icon. Dies after 3 or 4 minutes. Windows server version 1.24.5.5173-8dcc73a59. Reported in multiple places in the forums. I’m using a Hauppauge QuadHD tuner but I don’t think that is particularly relevant since I’ve seen posts with this happening with HDHomeRun as well. Firefox browser for me – but again, probably not relevant.

Very discouraging after the long wait to get the Android app to play Live TV properly.

Can’t give you logs because I have uninstalled in disgust and gone back to a product that works.

FWIW I’m having similar issues. Live TV starts fine and plays for about 2 to 3 minutes then stops. I’m watching over MS Edge on Windows 11. I have three servers on different machines and it happens on all of them. This all started after the last update. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling the DVR under live TV but that didn’t help. My live TV originates from and HDHomerun Prime cable card.

My Plex server is running under Linux - specifically a docker container managed by linuxserver.io under Unraid. I used to run it under Fedora years ago but got tired of the maintenance. I work in IT for my day job and I got sick of running IT at home after work too.

I digress…

As I said, server seems fine. The logs just show that the client quit on the server. The Plex server seems happy enough to serve out the content. And as I said above, I didn’t have any disconnect issues 2 days ago when viewing from a Roku client from a hotel room. Worked great.

My server setup always updates to the latest release every night at 2:30 AM, if there is one, and the container restarts.

I just checked, and my Roku client is still streaming just fine for 2 hours. But sure enough, the web client in my Edge browser on Windows 11 just doesn’t want to work after 2-3 minutes. So this has to be a client issue - maybe the decoder in Chromium is borked when working with a stream from Plex or something?

Here are the facts from my Windows system where the issue is present:

Windows OS:

Edition	Windows 11 Pro
Version	21H2
Installed on	ā€Ž10/ā€Ž17/ā€Ž2021
OS build	22000.258
Experience	Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.258.0

Edge version:
Version 95.0.1020.40 (Official build) (64-bit)

I’ll run a test in Firefox (as in - not a Chromium browser) and see if it happens there as well.

We watch Plex through Roku Ultras and when we updated our Plex server to 1.24.5.5173, we started noticing Live TV simply went away and found the TV back to the main Plex screen. In our case, it usually lasts longer than a few minutes, but the times it did happen, we were out of the room and noticed the TV got quiet.

I downgraded to 1.24.4.5081 and have not noticed Live TV just quitting for seemingly no reason since.

FYI - Playing through Firefox just fine for the last hour. No drops, all good.

Edge - still drops after 2-3 minutes. Guessing Chrome would have the same issue unless Google has some magic wand with their decoder that Chromium doesn’t.

Also - happy to upload any client-side logs from Edge, just let me know where they are ensconced.

Seems like the Plex for Windows download app seems to be working without any issues. Watching live TV for the past hour and no buffering or crashing.

Right, I am wondering if this is a decoder issue in Chromium specifically. Admittedly I dont know if other browsers or the native Windows app use the same decoder.

Another thing I noticed is that I’ve never been able to watch any of the Plex Live TV channels over Edge without them freezing permanently after streaming for about two minutes. With the Plex for Windows app they stream fine with no issues. I also tried the Brave browser which is also a Chromium based browser and it was the same as edge. It’s streams for two or three minutes then stops. Some kind of an incompatibility with Chromium browsers.

If it happened in Brave, and happened in Edge, that’s at least a lead on the issue, right? Chromium is the common denominator.

It appears that it’s an issue effecting mostly if not only Chromium based browsers.

Now it has happened twice with the on me with the Plex for Windows app so there goes that. Although not as often it still stops streaming.

Just happened to me on Sunday (for the first time) with any NFL streams I was trying to watch in my Brave browser, but funny thing is it didn’t happen with JellyFin on the same streams and the same browser. Both of which are using the same HDHomeRun tuners with OTA channels. Definitely something between Plex and the Browser(s). My mother uses Live TV all day and night on a Roku and not one issue with stopped streams.

Well I turned on debugging in the client per the following article and have been running it for the last 20 minutes. No issues, of course…

Plex Web App Logs | Plex Support

I swear, this thing was not working this morning. I’ll leave debugging mode on for the next few days and look over them. If I see anything related to the actual client I’ll bump the post, but for now, seems fine. Sigh.

I have Plex on my Samsung TV also and it’s been fine with no issues.
