after I restarted everything, Modem, HDHomeRun, NAS the error message changed to source is unavailable
I can not tune in to some TV Channels via Plex. The channels are working fine with the HDHomeRun App - I can record and watch the recorded stuff but I can not watch / tune in to see it live.
played around with some settings. Turns out, the subtitles setting is the source of this problem / bug. If I set the language of the prefered language to “none” the channels are working. As soon as I set a prefered language for the subs in the settings of the PlexApp - some the channels are not available.
This did NOT work for me! I think you got lucky with the subtitle change. I am still getting the playback error, device unavailable. But it can record channels in the DVR just fine. Plex app on my amazon fire tv plays live tv just fine, it’s gotta be some sort of web browser issue. I have tried Edge, Firefox and Chrome, none of them will play live tv.
I#m not using the web browser - I’m using the App for Mac. Solved a couple of issues when i switched from brwoser to App,

are you using the web browser or the Plex for Mac App? Maybe set all settings in the language section to none and give it a try. I guess it also depends on the channel and the streams they are broadcasting.
in my example it’s not working on the web or mobile android app or fire tv app
working fine on all Apple Devices (Pad / Phone / TV / Macbook). Can you tune-in to those channels with the HDHomeRun app (guess you are using a HDHomeRun tuner). There was also an firmware update recently on that.
Hi, yes, the HDHomeRun firetv app and PC application are working great. I did update to the latest firmware last week too. I’ve tried on a chrome, new Edge, Firefox and it’s always the same error. Channels DVR also works well.
probably a codec problem. browsers are not so “powerful” with video playback. maybe try tweaking the transcoder settings. here is a screenshot of my plex.APP settings (not browser!!)
Hi, interesting, i just finished removing the DVR and readding. it works on my android app. going to test your items here to see if the browser works. I’m not able to test Fire Tv yet.

I just was having the “playback error” “source is unavailable” issue in the latest version of the plex server running on Firefox (or any other browser). The fix was to uncheck the “Disable video stream transcoding” box in transcoder setting as in the x-Argus-x post screenshot above. Live video works now. Seems counter-intuitive, but whatever works!
This works for me as well, only it’s not what I want. My server isn’t powerful enough to transcode. I think they broke direct play of live tv again.
It’s working fine for me.

What’s your setup?
I’m running on an atom powered readynas, with an hd homerun extend that transcodes into a stream that I’ve previously been able to direct play. I don’t seem to be able to do that now.
