I’m a PlexPass subscriber. I haven’t dabbled w/ Live TV/ DVR at all yet, but am interested in learning more about the service.
I’m specifically interested in using Plex Live TV/ DVR (other required components, which ones??), to stream American news channels (MSNBC, CNN, CBS etc.). I’m in Victoria, Canada.
Those are all cable channels so you won’t be able to use any over the air tuners.
One of the best options for you will be the Silicon Dust HDHomeRun tuner which is one device with 3 internal tuners in it. That allows you to watch/record 3 things at the same time.
You will need to get a Cable Card from your cable provider which will most likely cost $5 to $10 per month for the card.
Carlo
PS if you any TVs with set top boxes on them that you don’t use much that is already working with Plex you can probably turn that set top box in and save a couple of bucks a month. In the US it’s typical to get charged $7.95 for a Cable Card but $9.95 for the box.
Thanks for your reply. I don’t think the cable provider here offers a cable card, at least I’ve never heard of such an animal. I’ll look into it though.
