New to Plex. Haven’t purchased Plex Pass yet, but really looking into it.
With the Plex Live TV. How do you get the digital channels? Would you still need an antenna for that, or just to hook the tuner up to a coax cable in your house?
There was a time you could hook up a tuner to your cable and get channels but that usually doesn’t work anymore.
You need a compatible tuner like HDHR and most likely an antenna. If your cable company provides cablecards you can hook up to cable but will probably need to pay for TV service which most people don’t do as they are trying to cut the cord.

That’s kind of what i thought. It just shows the cable channels under whats available for me. So i wasnt sure if that meant id have access to them with a tuner or tuner/antenna.
So for my own clarification then, with a tuner/antenna id only be able to get the basic OTA channels. Is that correct?
Tuner/ antenna just OTA yes. With a tuner/cablecard you would get you cable tv channels minus the DRM channels.
And to get a cable card you probably need to pay for cable?

Thank you all for your help. It’s greatly appreciated. Here is my last question about it, then I would know whether this is worth it to look into, since I’d only get 8 channels via OTA.
I would still only get access to the channels that I’m subscribed to with my cable provider. I couldn’t get the most basic of digital packages and use plex live tv to get free access to all the other channels.
Let me know if my thought process is right or wrong, or if i’m still missing something else.
Just so you know if using HDHomeRun equipment, OTA and Cable use two different pieces of hardware.
You will only get the cable channels you subscribe to. Think of the cable card as the set top box that decrypts your channel lineup you subscribe to. No magic will get you additional channels.
8 OTA channels seems very light for most areas. If you want send me a PM with your Postal Code and I’ll do a check for you to see what potential channels you could get.
