Did we lose the ability to share LiveTV with invited friends? When I invited someone a week ago, they could watch Live TV from my Plex server. Today, I invited someone, but when they log in, they don’t see the ‘Program Guide’. And when I look in the ‘restrictions’ section for the friend invite, there is no checkbox for ‘Allow access to Live TV’ like I thought was there before.
Forgot to mention that my server upgraded to the beta Version 1.11.1.4768 in between adding these two users!
The option should still be there. Remember you can only share with people in your Plex Home. You cannot share to regular friends.
Ohhh, I didn’t know that. Is this by design? Will this be changed any time in the future?
Yes it’s by design. I do not have any info on if this will be opened up to all friends.

You need to access your Plex server via the IP address and not through app.plex.tv in order to invite friends.

Wrong.

Not entirely true. You just need a recent version of PlexWeb. The hosted version is always the latest so any new features will be available there first.

Wrong.
How am I wrong? It is not possible to share with friends.

Wrong again, it has nothing to do with the version and also the hosted version doesn’t have all features first, as you can see in this example.@“MovieFan.Plex” said:

Because it’s wrong as explained above. When you access your server via IP the option shows up.
If you don’t believe me I just made a screenshot for you:
Here is a whole thread about it:

My buddy shared his Live TV tuner with me last night. It was using the PMS Mac 1.11.1.4768. I was using Plex Web via Safari on the Mac to watch. Buffered a lot and was really fuzzy but it worked.
Is there a way that friends can also use the DVR feature?
No, it appears that only the main Admin account can record/ use the DVR feature. Otherwise, all other users can just watch LiveTV or already recorded shows.
That would be a great feature to add then. My parents in law have been using my Plex server a lot and I think the only thing for them missing to convince them to cut the cord is the ability to record shows.
Very nice find. Did not know you have to go to the ip to find it. I wonder when it will come to the main. Too bad (atleast for me) Live TV seems very unstable.
After investigation, it’s been confirmed that this ability to share with friends is a bug in that specific version of Plex Web. This is definitely not intended. For those using this to share with friends, please note that this is being fixed and those sharees will lose that ability in the future, so enjoy while it lasts.

Guess I should have kept my mouth shut. Can’t see how you can disable it in the future though, we’ll just use the old version until your legal team has it figured out. This option is surely not a “bug”, merely it shouldn’t have been enabled yet.

This is a giant oversight by someone on the team if it is a “bug”. I would reconsider removing it or you’ll alienate a lot of your user base by removing a feature they actually want.
Can you at least explain why this will be removed? I’m a huge fan of Plex, and have been paying a monthly subscription for years because I think you guys write some awesome software that solves a really cool niche use case, and you continue to find new and exciting ways to make that $ worth paying.
But to backtrack on a feature like this is pretty uncool, and I don’t understand why you would do it.

It was never meant to be allowed. It’s clearly stated in our support documents 1 and 2 that sharing LiveTV was meant only for Plex Home members.

It not backtracking. It’s fixing a bug.

How did a “bug” that allows you to share Live TV with friends get a GUI and functionality to go with it?

Because the GUI and function are there to allow sharing with Plex Home members. A check was missed for when that setting should be shown.
