One way I counter act this is to remove the SD channels all together from even being selected from the HDHomeRun Config.
Though there are a number of SD only channels as well.

Good point. I deactivated all the SD channels and am discovering now that I want some back that don’t have HD versions. The sooner this problem is fixed, the better.

Good point, its a messy question. Australian EPG has always been a disaster no matter who the supplier - commercial channels deliberately mess with their listings to screw with DVR’s - seriously, a Channel 7 exec is on record for it. Channel 9 sued IceTV claiming their listings where copyrighted. I gather its better in the USA where they are open by law.

With HD vs SD I guess the problem is knowing which channels are simulcast. If they try to automate it they run the risk of blanking off channels which are incorrectly tagged.

Now you need to go to settings on plex and have Plex rescan the channels. Then the ad channels should drop off the guide.

Scanning takes a long time on my setup. I just cleared the channel setting in channel setup, that seemed to do the trick.

Not sure why the SD/hd thing is so important. In my case the SD channels also have a hd designated channel. So I blocked off the SD channels so only hd is shown, ending any issues. It also cut my channels from 167 to 76. Because somany were duplicates.

This might work for some and in such a case this is a good suggestion.

However, it is important to report bugs whenever possible in order to bring them to the attention of the development team. This is regardless of the bug being relatively small or more serious.

I have no doubt that people can live with this bug but I think some people might not understand the nature of it.

Since I don’t use the Plex Media Server web interface to watch Live TV this bug is mildly annoying in my use case. It does not manifest itself in the client guide (on a FireTV for that doesn’t have grid guide view example) and doesn’t effect scheduled records which are in HD (provided channel number to record on is specified).

Switching from “Channels” (grid guide) to “Discover” (old style) also has HD channels properly tuning in the web interface. This type of info “might” help devs pinpoint the problem rather then just truncating the available channels by purging SD channels.

Finally, in my use case I have need of my SD channels. They load faster and perform better on mobile devices (iPhone / iPad for example). Not only are SD channels less taxing on mobile but they look about as good as HD on mobile devices.

Also the removal of such SD channels in my case would be tedious. I have hundreds of channels and not all SD channels are duplicated in HD. This would necessitate a hunt for such channels if I wanted to remove duplicate SD channels.

A lot of work to remove channels I want to keep to begin with,…

I think its good that the bug has been found now before the dev team has moved on to providing a grid guide view to a host of other platforms.

I can see that. A small bug that needs to be fixed. There have been a lot of posts about how it’s broken (yes there is a problem)., and they don’t need the added channels like you.

Also cable providers keep changing their lineup without telling anyone. For that Plex would have to refresh the devices automatically (once a week or month) to search for new or dropped channels.

If they get both of those it could be a true pnp.

Aren’t the lineups maintained by gracenote along with the guide data?

It all boils down to preference…I will always prefer the 1080/720 channel well over the 480 channel. Some would rather record the 480 because of space, however that’s a mute point considering how cheap storage is these days…Still would be nice if it popped up asking would you like to tune to the HD channel…

Well it is a bug but it isn’t a series one IMO until such time as it propagates unfixed to updated Plex clients.

Along those lines, its my understanding that the new Plex Media Player Windows client has now received such grid guide view update. The Windows 10 version from the Windows store seems to remain unchanged (no update yet). This new Windows version seems to have the same bug and thus tunes SD channels when HD are selected.

So, from a certain point of view, the relatively small problem is starting to get bigger and will continue to get bigger if updated client software continues to propagates the bug across more platforms.

However, it would seem possible that the bug in question is generated on the PMS specifically and fixing it server side would automatically fix the problem across all clients without an update to the client software.
