Live TV GUIDE for android and web not working

Server Version#: Version 1.25.3.5448
Player Version#:
Tuner Make/Model:
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?: Yes
Channel number/Name: All channels

Suddenly the GUIDE doesn’t work any longer on Android and Web players,.
I have been using this for over 2 years and its been great but suddenly in the last few days I am left with no GUIDE. This has coincided with an update. This does not affect my NAS PLEX server where the GUIDE is still working. Although I notice there is an update available, but am afraid of using the latest version now.

Yeah mine disappeared as well. It only shows up exactly once if I delete and re-add my tv tuner, if I navigate away from it it goes away forever

Well I found the unsatisfactory answer. I deleted the app from my phone and Nividia Shield, loaded the previous version and stopped auto updates.

Of course the web Plex doesn’t work, but there is no answer to that until the update is fixed.

It really annoys me that the practice of releasing updates without proper testing is common amongst all software companies. Having worked in IT, if I did that in a critical environment, I would have been sacked.

gotta get that minimum viable product

Its downloadable, just Google

Update your server version to the latest available.
Verify that your local network doesn’t suffer from “DNS rebinding protection” in your DNS resolver (which is usually in your router).

After starting any Plex app, notice that the old “Live TV” is gone from your side bar.
Switch it to “MORE” and scroll it all the way down to the media sources from “Plex”. Pin the media source “Live TV” from this section to the side bar.

(This is the new unified EPG, which not only has your local EPG but also the EPG of the Plex streaming channels. Either source can be disabled in the context menu of this EPG, if desired.)

Thanks OttoKerner, I have updated the server to version 1.27.1.59.16 and the EPG is all working again. I should have just done the update, but the QNAP server sometimes doesn’t restart properly and creates a few issues. I have just updated my other apps and they are fine now too. Cheers Norman

Hi newbie here. Not too technical, sorry! I still have the all Live TV but the last two days no Hallmark channel in the guide and the message, “Live TV appears to be offline”. Any ideas to restore if possible would be most appreciated. TY.

Remove the old Live TV and pin the new one.
Make sure to use an-to-date server version.

Im not sure how to do this, sorry. Thank you for responding. If you ir anyone else could guide me on how to do this, that would be amazing. Thank you. so quickly though … appreciate it :grinning:

Well after just 5 hours, I logged back in to PLEX on my server and … the Live TV & DVR are now separated from Live TV on Plex and now all the Live TV on Plex is showing only a few programs.

Not sure what I should now.

I seems there is something very strange with this integrated EPG

Always use https://app.plex.tv

I appreciate that you are directing me to use a player rather than the server, however that is rather an admission that the server software is faulty with a bug. Surely there are some speed sacrifices using an external network player as opposed to playing media directly.

You are mistaken.
Both are the “web app”. The “local” web app which comes included with your server is simply an older version.

Thank you fo your clarification, however the present situation seems a bit messy and I suppose we can look forward to a server update, in the very near future.

The bundled version is never in sync with the hosted version and usually lags quite a bit since it is only intended to start up and claim your server the first time you run Plex.

OK forget all of that, there is an issue if the schedule is suddenly changed by the TV operator. Tonight they changed Wimbledon to stay on BBC1 and diverted the Potraits program to BBC2. That totally stuffed the tuner because the program data didn’t match the program. It did nothing, even after a reboot. I wouldn’t be asking for help if I hadn’t paid for the service to work. KODI however … YES

Server V# 1.27.1.5916-6b0e31a64
Player V (from server itself WinTel)
HDHomerun Quatro for inputting local antenna content
Using XMLTV? dunno
Channel number/Name: Live TV And DVR (broadcast tv)

The guide on plex for the DVR-able channels is truncated when compared to the guide that’s directly addressable on the HDHomerun using their app. I have read that it’s an SQL issue with com.plexapp.plugins.library.db where the field “DATA” doesn’t keep each entry unique. That causes Plex to under report available channels.

A local “repair” of the DB is undone any time a guide or channel refresh is executed.
