Hi All,
I’m currently running the latest Beta version on Ubuntu 18.04LTS with 3 Hauppage WinTV DuoHD Tuners and have had this issue since, well from the week I had Plex Live TV/DVR up and running. Each time I record multiple shows, Plex Media Server on Linux fails to allow more than 2 devices to stream Live TV, and then after a while, it drops to one device, upon a restart is required to get all 6 Tuners up and running again.
I’ve tried multiple configurations of operating, Hardware Transcoding off and on and still the same issue, after around 3-4 recordings during the day, it just drops tuners like they have bad breath!!
I’m coming to the conclusion that the Transcoding is to blame? or the way PMS tries to shut the tuners down after each recording? Is anyone else having this issue also, or is it my system? I’ve re-installed Ubuntu twice now thinking it was a bad install or update, but each time it just goes back to dropping tuners.
I’ve attached my logs from the server before I do a restart of the system, which hopefully shows that after recordings that it just won’t allow more than 2 devices to stream Live TV.
Streaming Movies and TV Shows that I hae in my library across to multi devices are not affected, it’s just Live TV.
Please, someone help fix this issue before I go mad…
Upgrade your server, that i5-3330 with a passmark of 5933 is really struggling to keep up. The video quality of the Intel GPU in that processor isn’t worth taking advantage of for HW transcoding so you don’t have much left to work with. If all your usage was simply recording for later viewing you might be good with 2 of the Duo’s provided all playback was via PMP TV mode and direct stream. User Ollie is using Chrome and channel surfing which is really churning your tuners that take a bit to recover. I have seen posts for a fix to the tuner recovery in the pipeline but it still won’t fix how your system is used.
If it wasn’t for your PCI tuners I would say get an ASROCK J5005 mini itx for $150 activate the HW transcoding and be done with it.
@pl_5309 Mmmmm, you say my CPU isn’t strong enough? Well, 3 devices streaming Live TV at present and HW encoding using the Nvidia GPU and here’s the CPU usage…
I’ve done something now to the serer that after reading another post, seems to have fixed the issue. As I said the issue only happens to Web Client users, it doesn’t happen to PMP on Android or iOS or Roku remotely, it only happens through either Chrome/Firefox or PMP on Linux even it drops out and also causes the PMS to not release the devices in a tidy manner, so please someone give me a better answer than “Upgrade your PC because of the benchmark” rubbish…
PCI Tuners?? They’re USB ones, 3 WinTV DuoHD devices.
And in the Pipeline? More like “When we can be bothered to fix it, maybe after we’ve put another useless feature in first?”
Anyway, I’m ending my moan, but I do hope someone fixes it sooner…
