Live TV on Android TV box and Roku 3?

I signed up for the Plex Pass specifically to view local channels in areas that will not pick them up with an antenna. As I’m reading the answers to support questions, I’m gathering that’s not possible? Why would I need an app to watch live TV if I can pick them up on my TV with an antennae?

You would still need an antenna - and a TV tuner (or perhaps a tuner with a cable card for non-drm channels) that works with Plex.
How would Plex know what to show you for live tv?
You would use this so that you can watch live tv on another TV what has Android TV (more to come) or use Plex as a DVR to record shows for you for time shifting.

Why would you buy a Plex Pass for a feature you did not understand?

(Oh, and it is not on Roku yet, but coming in the future. Right now you can only watch live TV from the tuner on iOS devices - not ATV - or Android TV devices - not Android mobile.)

As you have quickly learned, Plex is not a content provider, it just allows you to stream content you have on your HDD or stream from a compatible device (DVR/Live TV)

Today the benefit is that you can watch DVR TV anyplace and Live TV by just having power to your TV, everything else is WiFi (or hardwired Ethernet) but you don’t need a coax cable, dedicated antenna, or splitter which will cause attenuation in the signal. Soon you’ll be able to stream to other devices as well, the real power of the feature is waiting for the subway and being able to watch your TV from across town or around the world.
