Live TV still going haywire post 9.14 release on Google Chromecast 4K TV

This is running on a Chromecast with Google TV (4K).

I have previously raised a similar topic as: Live TV "preview" (on the guide screen) stuttering and then breaking Live TV [CCwGTV 4K]

That topic is closed (but still not fixed and driving me nuts), and I’ve also noticed it does the same thing when I pause a Live TV channel: Plex Live TV goes haywire following pausing video - YouTube

At around the 20 second mark, I pause the video then unpause it - and it turns into a bit of a slideshow.

I have a couple of Chromecasts around the house I’ve forced to run 9.14 and they run perfectly well, but this issue occurs for any release after that (currently on 9.23 for the one in the video).

The video in question is a 480i (MPEG2VIDEO) with English (MP2 Stereo) running Direct Stream for both Video and Audio,

Surely I’m not the only one that actually uses Plex to stream Live TV that this impacts?

I have the same issues, currently after that damn patch it runs only on android devices… a total shame also because they just ignore this topic. I’m pretty mad

Is bug on last plex client. Let’s hope that plex will fix it soon. The only way is to downgrade you plex app…

Different issue :slight_smile:

In 9.15 there was a new video player introduced on the Android client that impacted Chromecast, causing “stuttering” on video. They did fix that, but I’m still seeing similar issues in live TV in certain scenarios:

  • When hitting “back” from Live TV to view the guide, the preview video stutters and if you return to full-screen view, the video is stuttering
  • When pausing Live TV, when resuming playing the video stutters (as seen in the youtube video I linked).

It doesn’t crash the app, and you have to fully exit the Live TV completely, go back into it again, and then the video is smooth (until you repeat the process in the bullet points again, then it returns to stuttering).

The only way to “fix” this is to roll back to 9.14, then it works fine again :slight_smile:

Yes. Sometimes I get same issues. I’m also downgrade to older version. I’ve sent logs to plex but nothing happens and no answer anymore. Maybe they don’t care :joy::joy:

Hey @DaveBinM… looks like you’re in Melbourne, just like me. You must be seeing the exact same thing as me since we have the same channel line-up. Is there anything I can provide (logs etc) to help resolve this one?

I’d like love to see these performance issues fixed for Live TV :slight_smile:

EDIT - just realised I’m now running 9.24 on my chromecast 4K - issue still applies. Systematic on channel 9Go!.

I haven’t personally seen this, but I also don’t really watch 9Go!, so I’ll see if I can reproduce with that channel.

Hmmm, okay. I can reproduce this on 9Go! with my CCwGTV, but not on my Nvidia Shield, or Sony Android TV, or TCL Android TV. I know the CCwGTV has some issues playing certain files as well, with similar symptoms. Looking at the ExoPlayer Release Notes, it seems there might be some improvements in some of the newer releases that may help this (CCwGTV devices are specifically called out). I’ll raise this internally to see what we can do.

Thank you! It does happen on other channels, but easily reproducible (systematically I believe) on 9Go! (both with pausing the live video, and when hitting the back button to return to the guide).

I have multiple TV’s around the house (5) and have CCwGT’s on all of them, and I think we must be some of the only people left that actually watch FTA TV :slight_smile:

@DaveBinM I too am getting similar issues. How have the discussions gone? If it’s a potential of updating the Exoplayer is that an easy fix with a quick time frame?
