Live Tv support via DVBLogic APIs

DVBlogic team already released their own XBMC support within their Connect! Server environment. In my opinion Live TV support is one of the biggest missing hole in our Plex Media Center experience.

DVBlogic Connect! server provides wide selection of client apps iOS, Native Media center client, Android, Windows 8 Metro App, XBMC, Boxee etc. etc. Looks like Plex is the only missing one :o

Their API is programming language independent and based on open http/xml standards and can be found here

For C# API look here

For C++ library here is the link

For DVBLink Remote API Python library click here

Direct link for Official XBMC plugin is also here

There is also ongoing efforts for XBMX 12 with PVR support. You can check with DVBlogic forums if you like to.

Hoping that this will come to PLEX! in near future.

Agree with this.

Plus it’s not adding tv to plexapp core, it’s wrapping another app in a plugin.

Dvblogic is a better bet than eyetv, for example, because it is hardware agnostic and supports a rang of tuners.

I’d also like to see some kind of Live Tv integration and DVBLink is what I use for backend at the moment. DVBlink’s backend is rock solid but is only for Windows.

Whatever you do, please do not let DVBlink make front end though… After trying their iOS front end, XBMC from-end and Web front end, its clear they’ve never hired a designer

+1

+1 DVB Support for Hardware Cards, USB Sticks and Reel Netceiver

Anyone see the new Boxee tuner/dvr? I can really care less about DVR’s but a OTA tuner would be useful. Especially now that the FCC just green-lighted scrambling all QAM channels

Where I live TV without support for crypto is a non starter. In the clear turns my service into something that looks like it came from 1978 with like five or six channels.

Thanks, Frontier. Blech.

This could certainly be useful especially with support for the Synology NAS devices: http://dvblogic.com/Product/31

Well it seems DVBLogic is dead set in creating the server part and want to leave client apps for 3rd party.

Our best bet is to wait and see what XBMC Frodo brings and wait for PleXBMC update. Hopefully by then we’ll have stable PVR in XBMC and also stable DVBLink XBMC PVR add-on.

I would prefer one step at a time approach. Why not providing just a live streaming as a first setup and wait for PVR capabilities as further steps

Just my 2 cents

By the way by saying the server part, you are asking for Dvblogic should create plex media server part?

No, but i would expect for DVBlogic help in creating client/add-on.

On second thought, even though I’m using DVBlogic Connect Server, their clients (web client and iOS client) are ugly and so limited that No, I dont want DVBlogic to create client/add-on. :o

Wow. Live TV in XBMC is looking pretty good.

I was also post this request to DVBlogic forums but yesterday DVBlogic guys officially responded with "no plans". Sad to hear that no Live TV (Scrambled DVB-S, DVB-T, DVB-C etc) for Plex in near future.

Dont be too sad… If Martin’s work with PVR works out and is streamlined, we will be able to dump DVBlink for good and switch to any other TV backend.

For now I’ll stick with MCE7 but as Microsoft hinted, end of the road is near for MCE but I’m sure I will not be sticking with DVBlink…

All why reinvent the wheel. Mythtvbackend is the best backend today. The only limitation is that it won’t run on arm low end nas.

is there any Plex frontend available for mythbackend? Where is the reinvention here? Either way somebody needs to build frontend with dvblink backend or myth. There is no LiveTv or DVR frontend for Plex. Only thing is Martins(Big thanks to him by the way) unoffcial XBMC port. Basically i am waiting for the invention of the wheel; for now

On the other hand, Dvblink is better solution for me but i am not going to discuss this in here.

Martins work is really great! I am not taking anything away from him. He did a great job so that someone who has a mythtvbackend for recording can take advantage of it. He leveraged the work that had all ready been done with XBMC. Thus he did not have to reinvent the wheel.

Unfortunately its client side only. So I cant run the fantastic plex client that works on my samsung tv or roku etc…

I would just love to see this on PMS so that than the full power of the Plex client/server architecture can be used with all the devices.

Thats the whole point. After 3 weeks of trials I ended up with the the conclusion: Windows Media Center PVR/Live TV is simply the best for my taste. Same applies to Photos and Music (again for my taste) So for living room 65" I' am not going to replace WMC anytime soon means that I have to stick with DVBlogic as a backend.

But for other devices and computers in the house or in the my pocket PVR capable PMS would be awesome: Single app/hub for all your media on-the-go. For now I'll stick with DVBlink iOS app/ Web Client etc..With those, I can carry my Live TV where ever I go. Current functionality is good enough for me.
Dreams for single app postponed once more. For now :)

+1 live tv , epg and pvr in plex web/ois/Windows 8 would be super fantastic

I have running exactly the same setup. Photo's and Music/Now Playing sections are very rough in Plex.

WMC7 maybe stagnant for almost 5 years but Plex dev's should really look at those two sections in WMC to see how it should be done.
