Channels DVR has recently added the ability to pull in TV Everywhere channels through your current cable subscription. [TV Everywhere Support]
It is a nice addition because these streaming channels do not use up a tuner (currently use a hdhomerun Prime and cable card) and there are sometimes (depending on cable provider) more channels than what you get through your cable. A few examples are i get a handful of network news affiliates from different cities and there are a few adult swim channels that play a specific show all day long. If the TV Everywhere service could be added into plex as an additional DVR device that would be an amazing addition to the Live TV DVR offering.
Thanks StoneColdET this is exactly why I asked if Plex was planning on doing something similar. I too have it with YouTube TV as my provider and Philo as my second provider pulling in all of the channels except locals. The local channels don’t pull in with TV Everywhere from YouTube TV due to licensing agreements but I have them covered with my OTA antenna. If this ability was available through Plex, it would be a complete game changer and would alleviate me having to schedule recordings through 2 systems, Plex for local channels and Channels DVR for cable. To have everything condensed in one app would make life so much easier like the cable company where I can pick and choose what to record through the one system or cable box.
Came here to suggest this also. getChannels.com has it working already. I would really like this on Plex.
this would be much better than web tv/news/tidal.
it would be even better if plex bought channels plus and integrated the whole thing into plex.
I played around with TVE on Channels and it really is great. I hope Plex gets on the bandwagon soon, as this is the future of live TV/ DVR.
I really like to see TV Everywhere support added as well. It’s a very, very nice feature!

Voted! It would be excellent.
I’d love this TVE feature as well.
I have voted for this feature to be added to Plex. This would be very helpful functionality and would streamline my TV scheduling and watching
This would be huge because right now the only cable card tuner that seems to exist and work reliably is the HDHomerun Prime - but it’s out of production and highly inflated on ebay. On top of that there’s the cost of a cable card rental. Compare that to TV Everywhere which has no added costs. Please add this! (I voted too).
Not sure of the technical limitations of adding TV Everywhere to Plex, but this is an amazing feature. i’d switch to Channels DVR right now if they fully supported Roku. Hopefully the Plex team can integrate this before Channels figures out how to implement Roku.
I can see this being a deciding factor on which media server to use once TV Everywhere becomes more known.
Yes this would be an amazing feature! Is there a way to use xteve to do this now with major/legal services like Philo Hulu sling etc? Sorry if that is a noob question.
Just to follow-up, I decided to give Channels a try just so I could test TV Everywhere for myself. It really is as good as advertised. It works so well and integrates so nicely with the locals from my antenna, I actually prefer it to DirecTV, etc. This is a must add feature in my opinion.
I agree. This would be a fantastic feature!!
+1 Vote
Added my vote. I have little faith that this will ever be added to Plex though. They don’t seem too interested in adding things that people actually want.
Do the resulting recordings of the TV Everywhere content via Channels DVR have 5.1 or 6 channel audio (aka “Surround Sound”) or are they just 2 channel audio?
It will depend on what the TVE stream is providing. To the best of my knowledge it is all currently stereo only (i.e. no surround sound). It doesn’t matter to me so I don’t pay that close of attention, so I could be wrong.
Yes, please!
