Live TV - view DRM channels through HDHomerun app?

The HDHomerun app allows viewing of DRM channels. Plex Media Player does not. HDHR app does not record DRM (yet) so I would not expect Plex to be able to record them either. Is there any way to use the HDHR app to bring the DRM into live tv and Plex Media Player? I saw something on the forum about the HDGrandSlam plugin but nothing recently on that.

Plex doesn’t support encrypted channels, only unencrypted ones.

My question was not to have Plex support the DRM channels. It was about having Plex control the HDHR app, perhaps as a plugin. It would also mean that the guide data would need to have the option of including the protected channels.

I am new to Plex and do not know what plug-ins might be capable of doing. So the question is - can a plug-in do this? And would Plex make an option to include protected channels in the guide data if such a plug-in was created?

Last I knew only the windows version of the hdhomerun app is cleared for DRM. You would have to use a windows device and the hdhomerun app in windows to view DRM.

That is correct, it would be a Windows only feature. I sometimes forget that Windows is not always the king. So does anyone want to venture a guess at how much work this would be to get done? Could it be done?

No the hdhomerun plugins simply open the dlna stream, it’s the hdhomerun app on windows that has been DRM certified. Bypass the app and no DRM. Simply install the hdhomerun app and use it to watch tv. Its free. You can still use the plex app for recordings of non DRM channels.

The ios app for hdhomerun can also do drm.

So when will Plex be able to decrypt the DRM?

This is a huge feature for Plex users who want to “cut-the-cord” on cable.
