LiveTV stopping, 5.1/H264 transcoding issues, guide loading and player crashing

l have been having multiple issues with LiveTV on my setup, some of them for quite a while. I’ve decided to attempt to log them here so they could be potentially resolved. If more information is required, then I am happy to do what is required in order to get them resolved:

  1. Advert breaks or change of program often causes a swirling circle, sometimes the program will recover and continue playing after a short time, sometimes it will just stop with an error. I have all advert detection switched off.
  2. When watching any program with 5.1 sound (AAC_LATM) it will re-encode to Opus, which I’m fine with as the Shield apparently does not support it. However, it also reencodes the video to a 1080p/25 signal, which means sport is no longer smooth. Can this be resolved either by not transcoding video or transcoding with interlacing remaining?
  3. I have a favourites list in my guide, but the top channel in this list does not load guide items on entering the guide. If I scroll down a few channels to push the failing channel off the top of the screen, then go back up, the items for that channel appear.
  4. Sometimes (but not repeatable) scanning too quickly forward or backward, the player will stay on the swirling circle and never return to the video output. If I kill the plex client and restart NO videos work. Videos only start working again if I restart the Shield

Because of these 4 issues above, LiveTV can be an infuriating experience. Please could you please look into it. None of the issues above are new to the version of the server or client, they have been around for a while.

Hi, I am having a similar frustrating experience with live TV. It has been occurring for several months over two or three different Plex versions. My server is a Windows 10 desktop with version 1.41.8.9834 installed. My client is on both Roku Ultra and Apple TV 4K. No problems with the guide. My TV tuner is an HDHomeRun four tuner unit. I can select a program from the guide and it will begin to play, however, after anywhere from a minute to 3 minutes the picture freezes. No error, nothing. I can sometimes change to a different channel and it begins to play, but then locks up again. Oddly enough, I am able to DVR shows on various channels and they record with absolutely no problem. I can watch any tv show or movie from DVR with no problem. I can watch any other video from Plex with no problem. My only problem is with live TV. I have other Roku models in different rooms in my home and they all have the same problem. I can connect directly to the HDHomeRun unit on my phone, tablet, Roku and Apple TV units and watch TV with no problem. No idea what changed, but would love some direction on what is causing this problem. Last piece of information, I do not have cable, but am using an outside antenna to watch over the air channels in my local market. Any advice would really be helpful.
