Livetv-Streaming is crashing very often (about 3min)

Absolutely a Plex issue. I have Hauppauge QuadHD and it works fine in WinTV, NextPVR and Jellyfin. But Plex can’t even do LiveTV in the browser on the actual server machine.

Never an issue for me when watching on Roku but always a problem with web clients.

I am having the same issue with web clients. Roku has been descent, but web client is consistently crashing after a few minutes. Server performance levels are great with very low memory and cpu usage. Ran Roku and web client at same time and Roku play back continued when web client crashed (not a server issue).

Also having this issue on a QuadTV and hoping the public update comes soon!

Kind of glad I found this post about the live tv constantly crashing, I have been experiencing the same issue where live tv streaming would last 3-5mins before crashing. I have since uninstalled the latest version of Plex and gone back to a previous version (1.24.2.4973) that was last saved in the upgrade history. Can confirm since downgrading the version live TV streaming no longer crashes. I hope Plex resolve this issue, have since turned off automatic updates until some sort of confirmation the issue is resolved.

Here to report the same thing. Server 1.24.5.5173 on Fedora. Web client 4.63.0 drops out after a few minutes of live TV. Works OK on Android and Roku devices. HDHomeRun app on Windows works fine to both my devices (HDHomeRun EXTEND) work fine.
Most annoying issue that keeps reappearing at least once a year. I hope some effort can be put into squashing this bug once and for all.

Hello,

I’m also here to report the same thing. When streaming from web client, the connection drops after about 3 min.

This does not happens in other clients that I use.

I downgraded and it’s working now…

This topic is now in like 3 or 4 other posts. Live TV when run in a browser will only run for 3 to 5 minutes in the last 3 iterations of PMS for Windows. Doesn’t matter the type of browser on the client side (Chrome, Opera, Firefox, or Brave for me) or even the client operating system as it crashes on both Windows and MacOS when live tv is run from client browser.

The only solution as referenced by many people now is to roll back to 5081.

It would be nice after several months if Plex at least acknowledged the problem.

My Setup:
PMS on Windows 10 Pro 21H1 Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0

I experience the 3 min LiveTV failure in the browser from an HDHomerun. It does play with no major loss in quality, however after experimenting with the other PLEX players with Live TV, the experience isn’t consistent. They all have separate issues.

  • The PLEX player for mac does some strange transcoding making Live TV visually choppy and pixelated even though the server says it’s a direct stream from an HDhomerun - not rendering in HD.

  • On the HTPC version of PLEX, Live TV plays better, but HD channels look SD.

I’ve been forced to use VLC to watch Live TV.

As a test, I recorded a Live TV stream from the browser. Playback failed, but the record still continued.

I get exactly the same thing, the Android client, Samsung Client and window client work PERFECTLY with a HDHomeRun Connect Quatro (latest firmware), however, watching TV (BBC 1 in the UK) on the WebUI and it stopped after 4 mins with the above error.

The last Version 1.25.0.5282 or 1.25.1 and WebUI 4.71.0 works fine for me.

But!!!

Sometimes it seems it depends on the Channel (Signal strengh) and where you start the stream.

Audio skips sometimes:

Everything ok:

Maybe its because of the Audio-Stream:
AC3 → AAC is skipping audio
image
MP2 → AAC is ok
image

By switching between without stop the live-session

or

@Olli I tried your work around, and it doesnt seem to have made any difference. My TV Signal Quality is 75% and my Signal Strength is 85% and it still only lasts for 4-5 mins.

I’ve even tried switching some of the advanced features in the webplayer and its still not working for very long.

Rob.

Well here we are, now on version 1.25.2.5319, and this issue still exists. Do the devs even care about this? I used this ALL the time, now I’m back to using the HDHomeRun Windows app instead.

Having the same issue. Live TV from HDHomeRun works fine on Plex clients, but crashes after ~3 minutes when using a browser. I don’t have a TV in my office and my HDHomeRun is on a seperate network segment, so I cannot use their app as you must be on the same broadcast domain (network), so I need the browser to work.

Is there a way to open up an official ticket to have them address this?

Fedora - 1.25.2.5319-c43dc0277

Not that I know of :frowning:

Nope, Plex does not support their paid license holders.

You can tell this actually, because they fix things in their change log, that nobody gives a monkeys about!

Just here to add to the count of dissatisfied Plex users with the same issue. Windows 10 and 11, tried multiple transcoding/settings configurations, all major browsers. HD Homerun Connect Duo (LAN), 83% antenna strength. AMD Ryzen 3700X, 32G RAM. I have toggled almost every setting I could think of, but not rolling back drivers. I’m sure that may work temporarily, but I won’t do that for irrational reasons.

I’m also running into this, even on a Linux OS on my desktop on the web client with Chrome or Firefox.

The logs, as mentioned by other users, have lots of these messages, leading up to and during the crash.

I’ve been having this issue for over a year. Works on HDHomeRun app, all other iOS or TV apps, but not on a browser. Even in the same machine as my Plex server.
