When starting Live TV, the player suddenly stops and returns to the Live TV menu. This is repeatable whether I choose a show from the guide or start a channel from the What’s On tab. It happens sometimes after only a few seconds or after a few minutes.
Looking at the logs at the time of the last crash, this is what I see:

Broken for me also for some time. There are other threads reporting this issue dating back at least a year with no resolution. My Plex server runs on a win 10 Ryzen 7 machine and all 3 clients are hard wired Shields on the same network. 1. HDHomerun Feed from plex runs for a few then freezes. 2. Kill shield Plex client and restart. 3. Feed runs for a few then freezes. Had to use HDHOMERUN app to watch live potus debate and live football yesterday (0 issues when bypassing Plex). Plex recordings work without fail.
It started on mine too [Firestick 4K]. It happens after 3 - 5 minutes. Have tried every possible setting, tuning the settings all over, swapped 3 or 4 plex server versions down on Synology. Still no result. It used to work fine for about a year. I don’t get it. Can only blame the latest fire tv OS update, similarly the Plex app latest version. It doesn’t buffer while it’s working but it suddenly stops. Have been running the live streaming at res. of 720 with 4meg (internet 50 - 6o meg, 20ms ping). Please give us a fix.
The live streams are working fine on apple tv 4k, iOS or android 9 phone that I’ve got.

Same here. I have had some success by turning the “new video player” off in the FireTV Plex App settings.
I’m having this issue as well. Debian server, latest plex server. Latest Android app. Nvidia P2000 gfx card. I’ll get exact versions when I’m back at my computer.
Direct stream over WiFi works. Remote streaming with transcode stops consistently after about 5 minutes. Player closes drops back to program guide.
I had the same issue using the latest version of PLEX with a fire stick. I went into the PLEX settings on fire stick and turned of transcoding. That seemed to work as I was able to watch for about an hour after that without further issues.
I don’t know if this is a solution but it seemed to work for me. I didn’t notice any other differences with transcoding off.
@PurPLEXxed
That only works for HD channels on Fire Stick 4k. All of my SD channels have major audio sync issues when I change that setting. Here is an open thread about the issue:
YMMV, but I have stumbled into a workaround for my Android TV device running the latest client. When I tune a channel which direct plays MPEG2, then immediately afterward tune to a problem channel which would normally drop after 3 to 5 minutes of transcoding MPEG2 -> H264, it prevents my server from dropping the tuner connection. I have seen it stable for at least an hour after trying this, have not actively tested longer.
Thought this could also help point a dev in the right direction when analyzing the root cause.
Hello Noob here lol
I have setup plex media server on my Debian desktop, with HDHomerun quatro tuner with clearstream max 2 antenna, using Google Chromecast TV.
Google Fiber 1GB Up and Down using 5Ghz bandwidth
I can watch many channels with no issues, two channels I like to watch from time to time stop working and go back to the guide area when in one to two mins of watch almost any show at anytime.
These channels are local channels here in KC area.
I can watch the same channels using the HDHomerun app with no issues.
Can anyone help me with this issue
Does anyone else see that when you go to the dashboard and view the currently playing it does not show anything ?
Also if you try to pause anything it will not work either
I have the same issue and it is absolutely frustrating. Live TV works fine over the LAN but will stop when remote watching LIVE TV. It will stop, usually after 5-10 minutes. I’ve tried playing original quality, auto switching quality and even lowering it to the lowest quality when transcoding but all fail within minutes. It used to work but hasn’t for months. Running server on an i7, windows 10 computer and trying to play on android phone, Nvidia shield, fire tv but all will fail when trying to play my channels remotely. also my upload is 20mb/s
Yes and it doesn’t fix anything for me. The only workaround I have found is to side load the old version of Plex 8.5.2 from September 1, 2020 on my Fire Stick 4k.
I hope someone from Plex responds soon.
I am using Google Chromecast TV Plex app version 8.11.0.22186 just update to the newest Plex media update release dec 17 2020 which is plexmediaserver_1_21.1.3830-6c22540d5_amd64.deb
Tested it out the same then happens plays for a few mins and then back to guide.
Still does not show up in the dashboard NOW PLAYING area what the tech specs are. You can see the bandwidth montior shows high usage in the 50 mb area. If they can get that part work out I bet the rest of it works
This started happening to me today on both my NVIDIA Shields. Playback works for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Thereafter, my stream goes back to the guide. I have 200Mbps down and 20Mbps up and both devices are connected via ethernet. I’m running Plex on a Synology DS218+ with an HDHomerun and just updated to the latest version of Plex. I will revert but thought I’d chime in. It’s very frustrating. The stream works directly from the HDHomerun without issues.
