So I download some youtube channels to put into Plex for Offline Viewing to conserve bandwidth.
I was noticing though, that some channels will have the proper title being displayed for some of the videos, but for the rest of them you get a title as the download date (i.e., 2020-03-26) instead.
Looking into this, and validating with ffprobe, I can see that every file, even the ones showing the date as the title in Plex, have the correct title embedded as part of the metadata.
The only difference is that the “dated” files are MKV and the correctly titled videos are MP4.
So… why is it that Plex won’t read the title metadata from a MKV file? Or am I missing something that would allow it to read the title from the MKV metadata?
I’m assuming there’s some explanation for why this functionality doesn’t exist, but in searching the website I’m not seeing a reason, and looking at the forums I’m not seeing any explanation as well.
