How to get title with a MKV file? Are there alternatives?

Hello,

maybe someone knows how to get Plex to read the title tag in metadata from an MKV file? I read a lot of posts that this can not be done and everytime the unanswered question was why?

Is there any other method to get automatically read the title from an MKV file? It doesn’t matter if from a metadata tag or from filename. I also payed attention to https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ but there is no desciption about the title of a series.

Is there else a better way to store a videofile, with multiple audio and subtitle tracks, rather than in a MKV file?

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151

It cannot be done. Plex only reads embedded meta data from mp4/m4v files.

This container should be preferred if you must supply your own metadata.
(i.e. if the media don’t have a record on TheMovieDB.org)

But can you tell us why this can’t be done? Is this tecnically not possible for Plex or is this a license issue?

Would it be possible to use the optional_info from the filename as title?

/TV Shows/ShowName/Specials/ShowName – s00e13 – Optional_Info.ext

If you are looking to deal with specials, check tvdb and see if they are listed there, normally they fall info Season 0 not Specials

Season 00 and Specials can be used synonymously in Plex.
