Every time I re-install Plex I seem to run into this problem. The only way I could fix it was to start with a very old version of Plex, add my libraries and then upgrade. The problem is that starter version is so old, it no longer works.
The issue is all my videos are tagged using MetaZ. I add all my artwork and genres there. When these movies are then added to Plex, it always uses the encoded genres. Now when I add the movies, it always ignores them and gets the genres from online which are very messy.
No matter what I try under Assets, I just cannot get the server to use local media. Here is what I have configured.
Because these genres are so messy, it makes It extremely hard (in my opinion) to find anything. I would be immensely grateful to anyone who may have a clue on how to fix this.
The new (current) agents like Plex Movie, Plex TV Series will be configured per library and no longer us the central configuration in Settings > [Server Name] > Agents displayed in your screenshots.
There’s 3 ways to access the individual library configuration:
hover over the library entry in the sidebar and click ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit...
open the librarian click ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit... from the header bar
go to Settings > [Server Name] > Manage > Libraries, hover your mouse over the library entry and click on Edit Library
Switch to the Advanced tab on the library configuration pane and verify you have Prefer local metadata enabled. After enabling this option you might need to do a metadata refresh of your library for the embedded metadata to be picked up.
Thank you for the tip. What I had to do for getting this fixed was to edit the Movie library and under Advanced I sent the Scanner to Plex Movie Scanner and the Agent to Plex Movie Legacy. Once I refreshed the library, it was back to normal.
The only downside now is all the thumbnail pics of the actors are blank.
