Local assets for posters, art and themes on TV Shows

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8921
Player Version#: all players

reproduction steps.

  1. add a tv show to a tv library.
  2. pick the poster for the show and seasons you like.
  3. later decide you wish to use local assets for the posters art and theme.
  4. place appropriate files in the appropriate locations with proper naming conventions.
  5. refresh metadata

Result:
The theme and art get picked up and work fine. they appear automatically.
The posters get loaded and are the first option in the list to manually go apply.

Why do the posters not become active? I have local assets first on the agent list.
How do you make it so that Posters work like the art and theme do.

thanks
Mike

If you previously manually selected a poster, Plex has locked that selection and will not automatically apply a different poster (unless the selected online poster is no longer available).
If you never actively changed the poster, refreshing the item‘s metadata should select a new default if available (e.g. if you changed the default source to local files).

Any way to unlock all of my tv series? I am fairly technical, i am willing to even deal with rest api calls or direct database updates.

if it is confirmed that when the poster goes away that it unlocks, and there is not an easier way. perhaps i can programmatically change the poster to the local asset. refresh metadata, remove the local asset, refresh metadata, then add it back. would that do it?

This has worked for me in the past → Reset all manual poster selections in a library at once or unlock other metadata fields but its been a while since I tried it so things might have changed.
