Local Media Assets not being picked up by Plex Media Server

Folks,

I just ripped my copy of Batman - The Killing Joke, and added it to my movie library, and the extras aren’t being picked up.

Here is what the directory listing looks like for the movie (output of tree, so you can see full full hierarchy):

├── Batman\ -\ The\ Killing\ Joke\ (2016) │   ├── Batman\ -\ The\ Killing\ Joke\ (2016).mkv │   ├── Madness\ Set\ to\ Music-behindthescenes.mkv │   ├── Sneak\ Peak\ -\ Assault\ on\ Arkham-featurette.mkv.mkv │   ├── Sneak\ Peak\ -\ Justice\ League\ Dark-featurette.mkv.mkv │   ├── Sneak\ Peak\ -\ The\ Dark\ Knight\ Returns\ (Part\ 1)-featurette.mkv │   ├── Sneak\ Peak\ -\ The\ Dark\ Knight\ Returns\ (Part\ 2)-featurette.mkv │   └── The\ Killing\ Joke\ Graphic\ Novel-featurette.mkv

This library is using “Movies” as its type, which is configured with “Plex Movie Agent” and the “Local Media Assets (Movies)” agent is configured at the top of the list. All I see is the movie, and the trailer (which isn’t a local asset), in my library.

I am using the latest PlexPass provided version of Plex Media Server, running on an iMac running the latest version of macOS El Capitan, and my Plex Library hosted on a Synology NAS mounted via AFS on the iMac.

Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?

OF COURSE, about 10 seconds after I submit the question, it started working. Ignore me

How is the folder named, which contains the folder Batman - The Killing Joke (2016) ?
Does this top-folder contain files or folders which do contain non-ascii characters in their name?
(é à ô ä í ß etc pp)

Here is a test:

  • create a folder movieteston your NAS, completely outside the folder which is connected to your regular movie library
  • copy the whole folder Batman - The Killing Joke (2016) into it
  • create a new movie library on your server and connect it to the newly created testmovies folder

Now, do local assets work in the testmovies library?

Thanks, Otto!

It seems that the two files I had in the directory that had an extra “.mkv” on the end caused all of the local assets to be ignored. I fixed that, and then things picked up just fine.

Yes. To Plex, these 2 files are then not Extras, but actual movies. If Plex encounters more than 1 movie in a folder, it ignores all local extras in that folder.
