Why can't Plex find some extras?

Hi Everyone,

Similar questions have been asked before, but I’ve gone through all of the answers and the FAQs, and I can’t find an answer for the specific problem I’m experiencing:

A lot of my local movie folders contain extras as well as the main movie. In most cases, Plex picks them up fine, but in this case Plex is ignoring some of the extras. The movie directory is structured like this:

Y Tu Mamá También (2001)/
    Deleted Scenes-deleted.mkv
    Y Tu Mamá También (2001)-behindthescenes.mkv
    Y Tu Mamá También (2001) - Me La Debes-short.mkv
    Y Tu Mamá También (2001).mkv
    Y Tu Mamá También (2001)-trailer.mkv

Plex picks up the main movie file and the “-trailer” file, but nothing else. As far as I can tell, the above structure follows the Plex naming guidelines exactly. And there is no “.plexignore” file or any other obvious reason for these to be excluded. None of the reasons listed here appear to be relevant: support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201543057-Why-is-some-of-my-content-not-found-. The “Local Media Assets” agent is definitely enabled, and as I mentioned, the extra content for other movies is picked up fine.

Any ideas?

Which server platform?

If Linux, NAS or BSD: Try without the é and á in the file and folder name

The extras don’t need to have the main movie title prepended. Just name them after what they are. Makes it easier to actually read the title in the various user interfaces.

Deleted Scenes-deleted.mkv
Maing Of-behindthescenes.mkv
Me La Debes-short.mkv
Y Tu Mama Tambien (2001).mkv
Trailer-trailer.mkv

Thanks, that did fix the problem.

Unfortunately, I have quite a lot of content with UTF-8 characters, and don’t really want to rename them all. Is there any way around this problem? My server is on a Synology NAS, and UTF-8 characters are supported by the OS.

The fix in the last server version for this issue was unfortunately not sufficient in all cases.
You may try your luck with this workaround until the complete fix is included in a new version of PMS:

@OttoKerner – I haven’t tried the workaround, as I’m a little hesitant to make system patches. Do you know when a fix will be included in a release?

Sorry, no.
