Local Metadata not loading

Hi

I have my files (TV Series and Movies) on a Synology server. All the TV Shows and movies have their metadata saved in those folders. I am using Ember Media Manager to get the files done. For example the Planet Earth III info file is saved as tvshow.nfo in the Planet Earth III folder. Posters with name: poster.jpg
I encounter issues that the plex server is not loading those files (At least I do think so for a few Shows). I had issues with another show where it did not show my poster - just another one. I checked the folder and the poster was not saved in the folder so I did that with Ember Media Manager and all good. It took it from the local folder. But for some of the shows it is not taking correct show names and descriptions.

Within the setup I checked the Agent “Local Media Assets (TV)” - Within the series setup I selected: Personal Media shows
But still it is not getting some of the shows.

Any idea what could cause the issue?
Thanks a lot!

If you mean .nfo files. Plex has no support for those.
(They were originally invented for Kodi, I think.)

Ah I see - what format is working for Plex?

None, unfortunately.
Plex can read a limited set of video-related metadata which are embedded in mp4 files, as well as music-related from mp3, flac, or m4a files.
But MKV, AVI, or Wav etc don’t work.

All metadata in Plex usually come from external metadata sources. the main ones are IMDb, and TheMovieDB for movies, and TheMovieDB and TheTVDB for tv shows/series.
As long as your items are listed on there, it is just a matter of telling the exact title and relase year so it can fetch the right metadata.
Posters and other extras are handled as external files which are expected to be beside the media files.

The rules for all that are documented here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/
