Plex Server Version#: 1.19.4.2935 (latest available through pkg on FreeNAS)
PlexPass: Yes
OS: FreeNAS, version 11.3-RELEASE
Hello,
I’m having an issue with Plex where newly added shows (anime) to the library are not matched, causing the show to A) not fetch metadata from TVDB or B) use my local metadata. I use sonarr to manage my library itself, and take care to use FileBot and properly rename / organize the files in the way Plex/TVDB prefers, and this convention works across the rest of the library. A typical example is pictured below.
So revisiting the problem itself: the show appears on Plex as follows; no metadata populates. Since the “Match” option is available, it appears the show is not matched for some reason.
However, even after selection the option to match, metadata fails to populate, and the option to match the series remains.
I have done the Plex dance (The Plex Dance ™) on this library multiple times, and the matching issue remains. I have attempted to parse the log files myself, but don’t really know how to interpret them…in fact, from what I can tell, it looks like Plex is seeing the local metadata files. They just don’t appear on the UI for some reason?
See attached for some log files immediately after doing a plex dance on the library. Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to help!
Thanks for the quick response. Re: artwork; actually figured this out; it appears Sonarr simply didn’t download the season posters. The other art is loaded properly, and re-adding the series to Sonarr to re-download the season posters worked.
Regarding the metadata though, I’m a bit confused. The metadata properly loads for all of the other series in my library except for this one and a couple of others that were recently added. What are steps I could take to have the metadata properly load?
Note: This isn’t necessarily related to your issue, but you might consider changing the repository for your jail off the default quarterly setting. 1.19.4 is not the latest version available on pkg. Latest for stable is 1.19.5.3112 and plexpass is at 1.20.0.3133.
If you manually match a title sometimes I find I have to run a manual refresh on the metadata for the series to get it to kick over and actually pull in info for all the existing episodes on disk. After that you should get info for newly-added episodes, but that also depends on what’s at TVDB. I’ve noticed lately many just-aired episodes don’t have their titles when I sit down to watch them (let alone synopsis), and they only gain them a few days later. I’m not sure if this is a caching problem or the info simply has not been added to the TVDB yet by anyone. I haven’t looked to closely into it.
Thanks for the insight. I had no idea re: the default quarterly setting on the pkg repository; I will look into switching that over right now.
I had no idea that Plex didn’t support .nfo files. Very helpful. So if my agent is the Personal Media Shows Agent, how is Plex grabbing the metadata for all of my other shows? Reading the TVDB from the .nfo file -> pulling it from TVDB? Or just searching TVDB based on the show name and skipping all the local .nfo file altogether? It does appear that the artwork is being loaded from my local files…interesting.
The issue definitely isn’t one of TVDB not having the metadata; it’s populated for this show (and the show is old). I have tried running manual refreshes on the metadata multiple times for the affected shows, but this doesn’t appear to work.
Edit: pkg switched to the latest release rather than quarterly, and plex has been updated to 1.20.0.3033. The issue persists.
I manually matched the affected series via TVDB, and this fixed the problem. Switching over the agent of the library to TVDB to prevent the issues going forward. Very annoying that Plex doesn’t support .nfo files…hopefully in the future…
