Server Version#: 1.43.3.10828-00f62d37d
Player Version#: Plex for LG: 5.94.1 (Platform Version 3.4.0)
When I now try to play from the LG App in my local network, it now says that I require a remote watch pass. But nothing has changed except that the server version was updated, and it doesn’t work anymore since. The server and the player are on the same local network.
I tried entering the manual local 192.168.x.x address in settings but that gave the same message when trying to play something.
The mobile android client and the windows client both still work locally. So unless the LG app updated without me knowing (last time it updated I had to do it manually) something changed in the server code that broke the LG app.
If the windows machine is already set to private, as noted by @pl_5309 , or if changing it doesn’t stop the remote watch pass prompt, disable relay and disable remote access in plex so there’s no remote path for plex to try and connect.
Change the dns servers on the tv to 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 1.1.1.1/1.0.01 and power cycle the tv.
Ok, so I just downloaded and tried the Plex app on PS4, that also gives the same watch pass prompt.
It’s weird, because the only client that does work is the windows client, which is also on a different computer/IP than the plex server, just like the LG and the PS4. All on the same network, but the Windows client is the only one that is allowing playback (and the webinterface too)
I need my HDR playback, my windows PC doesn’t have HDR output.
Is there anywhere that I can download a previous server version to check if that solves it?
Change the DNS Server to dns.google for the whole networkand set a exception for “plex.direct” in DNS rebind protection of your router. That works for me until the next update.
Ok, I changed the DNS in my router to the google ips, and that actually fixed it.
Didn’t need to do any rebinds though.
For now I guess I’ll let Google siphon off all my DNS traffic, but this is not a solution, only a temporary workaround.
But if that was all that it took, I ask: why? How would changing my DNS to a google DNS suddenly now think I’m not remote and believe local play to work? Some weird stuff going on in the code for sure…
In my opinion, this is because the DNS servers of some internet providers continue to block the resolution of “plex.direct,” even though the router allows it.
Since internal and external IPv6 addresses are identical, it is crucial with this PMS version that DNS rebind protection exceptions (for “plex.direct”) work correctly.
Well, as I suspected, another day later it stopped working again, maybe some DNS caching thing IDK.
I then tried to toggle remote access again, and adding back the manual server IP again, but that didn’t help.
What fixed it finally was removing the Google DNS IP from my router again. Bur I’m not sure if that alone would’ve been enough, maybe adding the manual IP also helped, but setting that alone didn’t make it work, only removing the Google DNS IP was the last step after which it worked.
I did force close the LG TV Plex App each time I changed a setting.
So…yeah not sure what that means but hope this helps to fix this in the future
