Hi,
Can you add an “Lock All” button on the metadata editing option in the plex media server?
I find myself spending a lot of time locking all the fields when i don’t want the media manager to scan a movie (most of my daughters movies are stuff that will never show up on any on-line scan).
I think it’s an easy one to pull off… please do it fast
(whenever there is a new version, my settings disappear and i need to update all movies over and over…).
Thanks.
In this case, consider:
[]Unmatch the item (right click menu item); this will give you “ownership” over it, and no online metadata will ever be used.
[]Put those movies in a Personal Media section (instead of Freebase). This will give you full ownership over all items in the section.
While its possible to manually lock most metadata, is there any way of locking covers/fanart?
Thanks for the Tips but "Unmatching" is what i normally do, then edit the metadata (and manually lock each field :( )
Putting the movies in a personal media section will totally miss the point of having a "kids movies" section... all of our kids movies sit in the same section, i'd prefer not to create duplicated sections...
Can a "lock all" button be added to the "to do" list? or can you make it possible to retain the changes of the edited sections after a media server update?
Thanks!
My point is that once you unmatch, you will never get data from online, and there is no need to lock anything (as nothing will contribute to overwrite).
If you are seeing the data change for an unmatched movie (like lose everything you did), it's possible that:
a) you have it set to automatically rescan on timed intervals.
B) a disk goes missing (maybe over the network, or external USB drive) and the media gets removed (and then added back later when the disk appears).
If something like this is happening, I'd love to see logs, because it's not supposed to :-)
I just had some of my daughter's Curious Buddies movies, which I have had to unmatch in the past, get rescanned and matched up again to completely wrong movies. I can probably send logs - which ones should I look for?
It's possible (but unlikely) that b happened, since the movies are all on a USB drive but it never gets unplugged. Where would the setting be to automatically rescan? I need to check that.
Second this one, though it seems to be settled. It’s a pain in the as^H^Hdonkey to manually check all the fields + artwork.
All I want is
a.) a possibility to tell Plex that this movie already is matched properly and I don’t want it to be rescanned … even when I shift-click “Update section”.
b.) the assurance, that the entries data never again will be touched, unless I unlock it again.
I think this is an awesome idea.
I've used Plex for about a year now; honestly, a "Lock All" button is *the* feature I'd like to see added next (besides official AirPlay integration, of course :)). That said, I have an huge Star Trek collection I've built over the years (yes, I own it all) and while metadata often matches properly, there are times when it doesn't.
So, when I do a library update, I'd like the option to exclude sections that are already matched properly (including fan art, background art, theme song, etc). That is, once something is matched, I'd like the ability to easily lock metadata by individual episode, season, and/or series.
The final reason for the absolute utility of such a "Lock All" button is this: my internet connection just sucks, and it's a pain in the rear to have to re-download pics, art, theme song, and metadata in general.
Here it is a few years later. What is the status of "Lock All" or somesuch. I'd like to totally lock down a movie once everything is okay.
Each field should automatically lock as you edit them. There should not be a need to lock all after the fact.

The emphasis on " SHOULD ", I can edit 257 video titles and they will all remain as I set them, as they SHOULD do.. BUT !!!
Add a new video to the folder, the auto scan kicks in and reverts all the 257 """LOCKED""" edited titles I had, back to basically the filenames without any "_" underscores, "(", ')" or any brackets, it very frustrating.
Seems the only way for Plex to understand and leave the edited titles alone to rename all the files to what Plex thinks it wants display for titles...
Something is needed to tell the auto scan these files are the way we want them,, LEAVE them alone !!

bumping an old thread
I agree - an ability to "lock all" would be great.. I have spent ages getting files "just so". I would like to be able to lock these down forever - that way i can add a bunch of new stuff without undoing all the work i have already done.
At some point down the track i could "lock all" again and fix my collection once more to a place in time.
I could then manually unlock something if i need to change it.
please make this feature - even for only "pain up" plex pass members. It would be yet another reason to pay for this great app.
The "lock all" button should be added. It must be far more difficult to do than I realize. It's been years. I lock everything that can be locked. But I still get updates and changes. It would also be beneficial to remove the problem of posters disappearing whenever I play a movie. I use -all- my own posters and fanart .jpg's. I have all the agents whittled down to the bare minumum--personal media only to the maximum extent possible. I still lose posters simply by playing a movie. I just don't understand
Changes like this not happening make it feel like we are paying to be beta testers.
I vote for this and to fix locking in general on individual metadata items. I have some tv episodes that don't get matched so have painstakingly added in my own metadata/artwork and have locked all the fields but each time something happens to the directory (such as adding an episode) the whole directory gets re-scanned and the metadata is wiped out for those episodes.
People have mentioned clicking "unmatch" is that in an old version because I can't find that option. I click the 3-dots but this option isn't there. I'm using Win Version 0.9.12.4.
Also, is there a way to clear all metadata for an episode and/or directory? I have some that got matched incorrectly and I can't find a way to clear the info. If there isn't a way to do this can this too be made a feature request (although behind the locking feature)?
Thanks.

This should never happen, to be clear. If it is, it's a bad bug and we'd love to know how to reproduce so we can fix. But existing episodes shouldn't be re-added during a scan. Ever.
I ran into a user recently who was having this issue with the metadata being reset. It turned out to be a custom agent that was not matching the file correctly, so it kept deleting the old entries and creating new entries for each episode, hence the loss of custom info. I can't remember which agent it was, need to find that thread.
I found it by looking in either the scanner log or the actual agent log and you could see it deleting entries and creating new entries. Something like.
Matched file "some_tv_episode)" to "existing_episode"
reusing id X
file does not appear to match
deleting id X
creating id Y
Do you mean a custom scanner? That might indeed cause an issue.
No, I think it was an agent. One for Anime if I remember correctly.
Was Saitoh183 with my scanner and agent…
Sometimes there is an Exception in Plex Media Scanner.log that show after scanning all folders:
Jul 12, 2015 19:14:21 [0xf3bd6740] DEBUG - Adding subdirectory for scanner: /volume2/MegaRaid/Anime/■■■ Sub En/_test Users/Saitoh183/Trigun
Jul 12, 2015 19:14:21 [0xf3bd6740] ERROR - Exception caught determining whether we could skip ‘’ ~ Null value not allowed for this type
Once it is there, it is always there. I coded my scanner so that when i put a dummy.mp4 (valid mp4 file) in log folder for T/S purposes, and scanning, it will over-ride all videos with that file instead, and when removing it and re-scanning the exception went in my test library… I do not know how it pops up, but the same scanner code gave the error then didn’t anymore… Am trying to prevent that exception, but i cannot narrow down more…
Here is my custom scanner that work with sereis (absolute mode for anime or even normal sereis numbering, it does generate its own set of logs for troubleshooting, even a filelist.txt i use with a batch file to re-create a user library for T/S): https://github.com/ZeroQI/Absolute-Series-Scanner
