I propose a button to set the metadata lock and a status icon to show the lock status within the edit modal. The advanced tab seems to make the most sense with in the modal.
I spend hours picking the perfect poster and background images for my entire library. Even if the poster I want is already selected, I will select a different poster, save, and reselect with the hope that it will lock the metadata. I have gone one by one doing this to my entire library. And I do this every time something new is added. But still, I continuously find my posters changing. The auto locking that is supposed to happen doesn’t happen.
Based on this reddit thread it seems this functionality already exists, and while I can perform the steps to do this work around (and even automate it), most users probably can’t. Please, add a button to the edit modal to lock the metadata and a status icon next to the button to show the current metadata lock status. This would be a huge benefit to the users who are quite picky about the posters for their libraries.
The way you were doing it is actually working… unless the poster you’ve picked is no longer available (e.g. if it’s been removed at its source or there’s a licensing issue). Personally I prefer storing my posters as local assets alongside my media.
That being said, there’s already an existing suggestion to change/improce the poster locking behavior. If that’s what you have in mind, please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
In addition there’s existing suggestions asking for a one-click option to lock all information of an item or an entire library respectively.
Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.
