Locking down plex to stop updating..Plus privacy concerns

Hi Folks, I noticed that plex is spamming updates this last month. I’m sick of it. I don’t need to run 4k or any other crap they keep bringing out. My setup has worked fine for years. Can I disable all future updates to clients and also the server? if so how?

My second query… Since privacy has now become an issue with plex. How does one lock it down? Ports? services? or do is it better just to delete plex and go with other alternatives…

Many Thanks in Advance…

Depends on the platform you’re on. I’m on Ubuntu and removed the Plex repository so no more updates. Also I blocked metrics.plex.tv in my router for what it’s worth and didn’t use social login of course.

Stuff like the news feature (also a tracking nightmare) doesn’t come with PMS though but through the client apps.

As for switching, that’s you’re own choice. There’s some threads about it here. Emby is an obvious alternative. I don’t really need a server so might go with Kodi.

I’m running it on win 7, where is the repository located? I’ll add that router rule thank you. We don’t use the news features thankfully. I would prefer not too switch but if I cant lock it down then i’ll have too…

Windows doesn’t use repositories. In Plex Web, goto Settings \ Server \ General \ Server version updates. Set that to “ask me” and you won’t get automatic updates. You’ll still get notified so you can update if you choose.

Yup i have it set already to ask. I would like to disable any update feature and the need to tell all the clients until needed…Is that possible?

You can block metrics.plex.tv for your own network but if you have any remote clients taking connected to your server those networks would also have e to block it. I switched to Emby last week due to these privacy concerns.
