Looking for servers...

Plex 0.9.16.4.1911 is installed on FreeBSD 10.3.

It’s showing up as signed in to Plex.tv, I can also confirm the encrypted heartbeat between it and plex servers 45.79.210.23, 45.79.211.68 every 10 second.

If i open a client on Xbox, Android they aren’t able to find the server, neither can any browser when going to plex.tv, however if i access the server directly via Chrome from any computer on the same network it’s working fine.

Starting a new thread as IP address change thread I started earlier has nothing to do with the problem I am facing.

What should happen when I click Launch button on Plex.tv? Is the plex.tv making a call to my server or my server is supposed to contact plex.tv?

Thanks

figured it out.

Plex does not work with VMXNET nics, must use E1000!

hum I seriously doubt that’s the case and if so a bug could be the cause in either plex, vmxnet or freebsd…

but since you mention that… something just came to mind, did you have jumbo frames enabled on the vmxnet nic?

no, no jumbo frames enabled.
if any one could confirm my finding, my Plex is running on FreeBSD 10.3 Release #0 r297264. ESXi 6.0.0, 249585, Plex 0.9.16.1911-ee6e505

I might have a way to test this scenario I’ll let you know if I can repro, I any case I know other people using ESXi and I’m 99% certain VMXNET is working with linux so I don’t see a particular reason (except configuration) why this doesn’t work on FreeBSD, specially since you were able to Direct Access the web interface… that pretty much means network is working on the VMXNET but there are other factor that might be a play.

It seems that the breakdown is somewhere with the server sign in process. While the server is showing signed in, it really isn’t.

If you click sign out, you get a button to claim the server, but when you claim it just signs in without asking you for credential. not sure if it’s supposed to be this way.

mikec_pt,

have you had a chance to test VMXNET nic?

Thanks

Actually I didn’t but asked a colleague that runs plex on a vmware guest and all seems to be working fine with linux guest, but could get confirmation on FreeNAS/FreeBSD, but if its only sign in that’s not working something else is at play here… one issue would be jumbo frames but since you say it not the case I’m not sure what fails, I would need to see the logs.

did he change the NIC to VMXNET? because Plex is working fine with E1000

He was always using VMXNET since you get better performance with it.

There could be other factors in play… I will do more troubleshooting on my end as I migrate to a brand new HP server running a customized HP image of esxi 6

Plex deliberately ignores interfaces that start with “v”. I wish I was kidding.

Unbelievable. Some days it seems Plex is on a crusade to see how much they can piss off their users.

Hey, Plex… a tip: IT admins don’t need a nanny, thank you. This arbitrary and random restriction breaks many valid use cases.
