Lost all control of server (unauthorized, unclaimed, and getting ready loop

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.42.1.10060-4e8b05daf-x86_64
Player Version#: Plex-1.110.0.351-4e48eb83-x86_64

Windows 10, 64bit, SSD with 2 Data disc in a Raid mirror

Running Plex on this device for 6-7 years with zero issues until about 1 week ago. Lost control. I did not change my password. I updated the server and poof, shortly after that, it flaked out. I have consistently had the ‘getting ready’ loop. Tried Plex support article. No worky. I can use 127.0.0.1:3200/web and did get to the ‘unclaimed’ screen. But clicking claim server button would seem like it was trying something for 10 sec before coming back to that same status. This progressed to the not-authorized screen.

I cannot get past ‘not authorized’.

I have tried the removing registry keys

I have tried running the curl commands that are out there.

I have tried suggestions from ChatGPT (I was desparate).

I have tried a total wipe of the install (registry directory removal, Plex Media server from the user’s local app directory, and uninstall). ← that was my last action. This should have worked except, maybe I missed something.

I have loved Plex and been a lifetime member for well over 10 years. I had to install it on my laptop (glad I did not recycle it yet) and copy some media over, but I want it back on my PC. Spent hours on this and I’d like to think I am logical and capable. Any guru’s out there that can give me an “ah-ha” moment?

No one has advice? My issue is this odd? sigh

I tried a full uninstall of Plex again, including the Plex app. I even searched for anything named Plex. Rebooted, did a fresh download of the 64bit Server install (yes, I am a 64bit version of Windows). I went to 127.0.0.1/web first and it was a blank ‘Plex’ screen (see attached). I then launched it from the systray and I get the “Getting ready” splash screen. It would seem there must be something that is hooking on my old install/issue. I really do not want to re-load my OS.

Notice in particular the linked New Claiming Requirement for Windows

this is the ‘blank’ Plex screen.

When I click the ‘open plex’ I am stuck in an infinite 'getting ready loop. I alsi tried opening the html from my wife’s laptop and still no luck.

(So much for easier).

Let it sit on there for a few minutes.
Then stop Plex server using the task tray icon and restart the server machine.

OK, I sent the setup file to another PC, opened it, but it just had the path to the file in the address bar and continued to refresh similar to the ‘getting ready’ loop. I let it sit there for a few minutes, then entered the local IP of my Plex Server with the port and /web. It sat at that same blank page with ‘Plex’ on it. I let is sit there for a few minutes, went to my Plex server machine, close Plex in the systray, rebooted, and when I logged in, it went to getting ready again. Let it sit there. Went back to the other machine on my network and refreshed the setup. This time it said the page/server was not a server hosted by plex, did I want to authorize it. I said yes, it looked promising, but went to that same old page of server not authorized. sigh

If I go back to the server machine and do ‘open plex’ from the systray, I get the getting ready loop. If I go to 127.0.0.1:32400/web, I get the not authorized screen.

UGH!

I’ve tested this method twice within a week and it was both times successful.

I will try the first part, but for the 2nd, using that article, how should I open the setup.html file on the other PC. It just lists the path to the file in the browser. Seems like something should be updated so it executes it over the network on the target machine.
