ALL Libraries are LOST!! All I can see are plex online options, though my watchlist is preserved. After resetting password and selecting “sign out all connected devices”, all items are missing, even my entire server! Talk about an epic fail and terrible heartache, and now all my users are complaining and takes literally MONTHS to rebuild my libraries. PLEASE tell us there is a fix to recover our servers without having to rebuild from scratch!!!
Did you reclaim the server after resetting the password? I quit my server, relaunched it and logged in directly at the server. In settings it told me my server was unclaimed and needed credentials to be claimed. After entering the admin user name and new password, all of my settings were restored.
I found an obscure option under the server icon to seek an update and this refreshed my ability to reset homescreen customization. Now the ‘claim server’ option is available and is apparently syncing. Will update if everything successfully completes…
Libraries are now restored; however, now my dashboard will not show detailed data but wants me to purchase a plex pass. I am a lifetime Plex Pass holder and the account tab correctly shows this…
I’ve been a sys/network/sec admin for years, my b/u methodology is sound. The complexity of my plex libraries, and the many personal libraries I manage (20 terrabytes), are what would require an inordinate amount of time to rebuild.
open your server through its local IP address (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:32400/web if you’re on the same machine)
go to Settings > [Server Name] > General
click Sign In (or Claim Server) next to the message stating that your server isn’t claimed
This should also be the cause of why you cannot access the Plex Pass related features – your server doesn’t know it has a Plex Pass membership and therefore doesn’t show Plex Pass related features like the detailed dashboards.
thank you, this issue was resolved and have opened another thread to address the missing dashboard metrics issue. I appreciate the help, and will delve into server backups again to hopefully preclude the other issue. thanks!
Thanks Banz, basically, trying to restore server backend files wouldn’t sync with the (current) version of the software upon the reinstall, thereby requiring me to go through every library and file to recreate what I had. Some things work but others don’t, but I now maintain a copy of the server install file and a b/u of that version’s data so I wouldn’t have to recreate everything, (theoretically, still untested), but still can be a lot of work. If you’ve an idea on how to do so more efficiently with a Windows install (or perhaps it’s time to migrate to Linux), I’d be interested… Thx!
I am no expert; I have simply restored the db files a couple of times.
I can imagine a very old backup might not be portable to a new server version. And if some libraries basically never change, maybe you only have old backups for them.
There is a setting to create a copy of your db automatically every 3 days which should ensure that your backups are always in a format that is compatible with a current version of the server. Are you doing that?
yup! I’ve not had to rebuild for a couple years and this setting wasn’t always available, would certainly make things simpler if it works as it is supposed to. Hope to never have to find out!
