Lost Collections when moved to new Hard Drive

Server Version#:Latest
Player Version#:Plex Media Player Windows 7

I had a library that was 80% collections, i followed the steps to move the library to a new hard drive EXACTLY as PLEX describes. I lost all my collections. I searched for an answer but could find nothing. I know i did the move correct, i did it with another library that had zero collections, so no issues there.

Anyone ever move collections to another Hard Drive? Is there a trick? Is there any way to save these collections I’ve RE-made, if i need to move it again, it will be larger and more work to restore, not going to be a happy camper.

The collection information are stored in your Plex Media Server’s database. So moving the server data directory incl. registry information and making sure Plex is pointing at the right places should also migrate those collections.

i didn’t move the plex server files so what did i miss. what is the registry information? I’ve never heard about that before? did i need to edit it?

I think I have misread your post… I thought you had moved the server to a new system.

If this is “only” about moving media to a different location: I take it this is the procedure you’re referring at?

The only potential road bump coming to mind is if you had changed the library agent since adding your collections but never refreshed the library metadata. In such a case, Plex could recognize the files at their new location as different movies. In that case the manual additions like collections will be lost once you remove the original files (and their library items).

yes it was moving the video files to a new hard drive

you could be right, i can’t recall paying attention to what agent i was using.
