Lost Library from IP change

Good morning everyone. Before I throw my NAS out the window, I figured I’d post something here.

Been running PMS on Synology DS218+ for 3+ years now without any problems; PlexPass is fantastic.
Just moved to TX, and had to switch ISP, which means all my static IPs had to change since I can’t fully manage their modem/router.
As soon as I changed IP on NAS, PMS Library became unavailable.

I’ve looked up archived posts in the community and everything seemed to point to altering the prefrences.xml file and starting it up again, but nothing seems to work.
When I log into Plex on NAS, I click on Settings and there is no option to add library anymore.
when I go to http://server.local.ip.address:32400/web, i get the NO SOUP FOR YOU

It’s not there anymore, but when I DID have the option to load media, it would simply direct me to the URL to download various PMS versions.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

Please fill in some more of the details?

What was the LAN configuration before? (IP addresses )
What is the new LAN configuration now? (IP addresses )

Specifically:

  1. router on the LAN side
  2. IP of the Syno
  3. IP of your computer

Thanks for the reply.
Previous LAN Config was single NightHawk RAX200 (10.0.0.1 /24) and Synology NAS was 10.0.0.100 /24

New Configuration:
AT&T Router (11.0.0.1 /24) and RAX200 (11.0.0.2 /24) for more coverage and Synology NAS is now 11.0.0.100 /24 [i had to switch to 11.x.x.x because AT&T router wont let you use 10.x.x.x - aggravating]

I used to have a Pi-Hole as my DNS server for the house, but I’ve eliminated that all since moving to this home and the AT&T router wont support customized DNS entries.

My computer is 11.0.0.14 /24, with gateway set to 11.0.0.1

At this point, I don’t think it’s a networking issue, as the PLEX app on my Synology wont even allow me the option of adding a library or even have that entry as an option.

So Plex only works in private ip address blocks? ughhh i had no idea.
And I’m a networking engineer; lol.

Man, i was always trying to avoid the ever-generic 192.168.x.x address spaces…

thanks, back to the drawing board.

Still doesn’t really explain why plex won’t let me even add a library though, does it?

Thanks again. Looks like it’s gonna be another long night.

You are awesome. Got both my routers to reflect a 192.168.x.x network and Plex immediately saw and restored my library and database.
Thank you so much.

Only problem I’m still having is it still says “not available outside your network”, but I think that’s because NAS is hardwired to Router2 and I didn’t set the port forwarding on that router, I did set that ok the primary AT&T router though.

Ok I plugged NAS directly into my primary AT&T router, and everything is as it should be.

Thank you again so much. Have a great New Year as well.

Ok here’s another new issue I’m now having…
I can play movies just fine; however, the larger files, which are over 6Gb are just hanging when I go to play them.
On the PLEX dashboard, it doesnt even show that a user is streaming that movie.
The CPU on my NAS immediately shoots to 99% usage though (normally around 10% when streaming these movies).

(File removed)

The weird thing is that I can stream this movie from my smaller Samsung TV with no problem: It - Chapter 2.txt (47.5 KB)

When I try streaming from my NVidia Shield though, it seems to play maybe 2 seconds, then pause for about 45 seconds, then play for 2 seconds, etc.

Very weird, man.
Yeah I have no idea why it’s doing this.

Maybe it’s something with the Nvidia shield. I’ll try it in another Nvidia shield I have in the home and see what happens.
And what’s weird is that smaller, lower resolution files play with no issues at all

So where is that direct play option? I thought I was looking everywhere it should’ve been last night. Is that a setting on my NAS Plex server, or a setting on the Nvidia shield client side?

Ok i think i figured out what the issue is.
Everything works perfectly one one of my NVidia Shields; however, this one in the bedroom, I’m having all kinds of issues with certain UDK 4k HDR movies… and they all have one thing in common: audio formats that are causing issues:
I’m noticing that anything with either 5.1EAC3 or 7.1 TRUEHD audio cause the Plex app to hang whenever I play any of these movies.

Any idea what would cause this? I’m certain this has to be the cause, as I’ve tried about 30 movies that have these audio formats and they all hang the system.

Thank you very much for everything. take care, good sir.
