The 1969-1974 tv series Love American Style is a comedy show where each episode will have several different stories in it. Example:
Show #1 contains Episode numbers 1, 2 and 3.
The file names after running through Filebot are correct. Example:
Love, American Style [Comedy] - S01E01-E03 - [1969-09-29] (480p, MP3@2ch) - Love and a Couple of Couples & Love and the Hustler & Love and the Pill.avi
I am used to the multiple episodes showing up like this…but my question is this…is there a way or can it be a feature in an update to allow these to actually be MERGED inside of Plex? So that ONE file = ONE episode. So that it will be labeled as Episode 1-3. And the next one, in this case, would be named Episode 4-6.
This would be a huge benefit to server owners and viewers as you would not have to SKIP episodes when watching. Not the end of the world but a pain to have to skip episodes to get to the next NEW one. And if you don’t know the series you actually have to start watching each to notice you have already seen it.
Anyway, just a thought / question. This would really be a nice feature to add if there isn’t already some way to do it.
With some shows I have done exactly this…however, in this particular case, and while they COULD be split, this is how the show is produced,. Every show contained 3 (usually) separate stories. I am posting on THETVDB forum for them to change how they have them but if you have EVER dealt with those people…they decide that THEY are the GODS over all things TV and how things get listed on their site. It doesn’t matter if you show them they are wrong with proof (even proof from the cast, director(s), and media production company…) I have done so on several tv series and they give me the whole standard idiot speech of “we discussed this in depth and we have decided that we will leave it as it is” or the opposite “we discussed this for weeks and have decided to change the format. Doesn’t matter what every other site has episodes listed as, we are doing it our way!”
In this case, they have split every story into it’s own episode…which is sooooooooo wrong!!!
Oh well…here goes a waste of 5 minutes typing… LOL
So very true.
It actually extends further than that of late.
There are plenty of shows that they listed correctly a while back that now it seems no longer/ever existed.
Can you tell me WHAT service then PLEX uses for it’s TV show data?? If it’s using thetvdb.com then any chance the big chiefs at PLEX could have a discussion with them about how their data is mined? Or at least add the ability to pull from either dvd or aired, or whatever crap flavor they offer in the future. This would clean up the PLEX interface when it comes to shows like this quite nicely. Or just allow a nice server side editing as I asked for in original post.
See, the problem is, when you have 1 file with 3 (they are NOT episodes, contrary to thetvdb.com saying they are…they ARE stories IN the episodes.) stories there is no clean way to fix it. If you delete the episode you delete the file. As far as I can see. I actually have NOT done it as it asks if I want to delete from my file system. NO I don’t want to…I just want THAT episode removed from Plex. If it doesn’t kill the actual file please let me know. If it does kill the actual file, then there is NO way to remove an episode, that I can find… Thus, I must keep episode 1 episode 2 and episode 3 even though they are all IDENTICAL because PLEX is using 1 file for 3 episodes…because where ever the data is mined FOR PLEX thinks it is 3 seperate episodes.
Does that make sense? I hope so…
(EDIT: Ok, it absolutely DOES remove the file from the computer. Just did it.)
(EDIT 2: If you set to NOT allow deletion you can’t REMOVE the episode from Plex. I’ll keep playing with this to figure something out and I’ll post when I do. But an option to REMOVE episode would be GREAT to add…just sayin’)
I did use the delete to my advantage. I couldn’t figure another way to get PLEX to NOT show the episodes that had no business being there so I used file delete via Plex to make them go away. I fixed the first episode in each sequence to have the correct information and then deleted the rest. Then before Plex could rescan I un-deleted the file in the system. Yes, a pain but it accomplished (sort of) what I was looking for. Here is what the result looks like:
Love, American Style [Comedy] - S01E01-E03 - [1969-09-29] (480p, MP3@2ch) - Love and a Couple of Couples & Love and the Hustler & Love and the Pill.avi
Love, American Style [Comedy] - S01E04-E07 - [1969-10-06] (480p, MP3@2ch) - Love and the Living Doll & Love and the Letter & Love and the Joker & Love and the Unlikely Couple.avi
Love, American Style [Comedy] - S01E08-E09 - [1969-10-13] (480p, MP3@2ch) - Love and the Phone Booth & Love and the Doorknob.avi
Now, here is hoping when Plex does a full rescan of everything it won’t change it all back. LOL
LMAO!!! I even made a case for this series to be changed AGAIN… Site admin AGREES it needs to be changed…but won’t allow it. LMAO!!! Their thinking simply boggles my brain!!!

would’ve achieved the same. Without having to delete and un-delete.
